REMINDER

DaveJon - stop hiding away in your ferrety boltholes and settle on a two machine pub and convenient weekend time for the ass-whipping that Ernest, Fotherz and I are ever-ready to hand out to you.

Judging by the state of the handful of scoreboards you have stained, your high scores only occur by way of statistical inevitability, given the 1000s of games you appear to play every week.

In comparison, we slap down 1800+s almost at will (I'm now clearing at 40%ish solo), regularly topping your lesser boards on first attempt.

I thus predict that, given equal time in a head-to-head challenge match, we will easily secure a decisive victory.

Ready to prove us wrong, or were the earlier preliminaries to a match just smoke-and-mirrors?

(Or are you unwilling to meet up because your 'methods' would not stand up to scrutiny :wink :)

A new score for EWQ...

INCOMPETENTS, GEOFF TKA. Red Lion Greenford.

It was weird though, It was 1400ish for £1 most of the time but after a few games it offered 500 for £1 and not the normal 1850 from £2 afterwards.
But £2 was at 650, £3 at 750, £4 at 900... So I took £8 at 1200

Also it was a new machine since I last played here. Sorry if this doesn't make sense, I had a few pints and England's 12/21 was there. Nice bloke too.

Once you have a 2280 score I think we can talk about solo clearances..... :D

Anyhow, you'll need to speak to Jon rather than me, I was unable to get a hold of him virtually all weekend and was only allowed to play for a couple of hours yesterday during the footy :? :

So was that a solo score, then?

Well, unless you send me his email or phone no., the only way I can speak to him is through here.

Of course, I'm willing to take you on Dave in a 1-on-1 if you want it to come down to individual flair.

But something tells me that you wouldn't be able to commit to that either.

More importantly, we (anyone from our team, really) need to see you two playing to make sure you aren't using a solver or suchlike, as we know of players who are. This obviously cuts both ways - for you two to check up on us, as well.

Whats a solver?

2280 was a solo effort yes, but tat was a fluke, my previous best solo clearance was an 1881 and I often get daunted as I'm used to Jon flying in there with a flurry of words to begin with.

A computer prog that does the work for you.

We try to see ppl play in person now, as we don't want the scoreboards overrun with little robots.

i'm not sure any robotic solver could overcome the time constraints
in 2 minutes. someone would need to key in the 117 letters (without making any typos), the machine would need to whirr and clunk for a bit and tell its driver what letters to press to maximise score all in 120seconds±.
add to that obviously fishy behaviour which may arouse suspicion.
in theory i'm sure it is sound but there are some things which humans can do better than machines, imo WU is one of them.
nobody ever wins on those things.

CONGRATULATIONS to me

Post by Istenem »

playing at the crown on seven dials, it has a fatbox with the collins gem dictionary but BRONXCHEER still whacked out an IMPRESSIONISTIC for 450 and top spot in my long words on goal difference (still two letters short of an acme).

thanks VB, i notice from Ernest's website that you have yet to nail a 15 ;)
the board had POST~ scattered to the left but i wasn't going to risk fouling it up on an improbable word like that.

Aye, that's true, but I've only recently started going for very long words and I still don't think the long/high words scoreboards are of any real importance when marching on other people's turf.

That said, it would be nice to get a biggie.

Yep. On the new Itbox dictionary at least. Shamefully I don't think it made the scoreboard in the Cambridge Arms as I've got some good words there already.
