What Are The Criteria For Removing Games?

Post by tonkarentino »

During a lull in the football, my mate and I were discussing games that had disappeared from quiz machines particularly Paragons and games that seem to be ever present.
The most notable of the former is of course Bullseye which just about always seemed to be on the front screen of any Paragon played because it was so popular. Assuming that being on the front screen is based on the amount of play a game gets (which I freely admit may be an erroneous assumption) how was the decision arrived at to remove it. The game had a fairly robust defence mechanism in the score to be achieved and it's ability to deny you any red segments in the end game, yet it went.
Another popular victims of the chop was NUTS (popular for obvious reasons),
The most notable of the latter are Word Soup and Pub Quiz which have seemingly survived every cull since time began.

Is it a question of the amount people are able to win? If so it's a strange idea that overall Pub Quiz gives less than Bullseye.

Anyone out there in the know or have a theory??

Cost of licence.

Bully and Nuts will be far higher than Word Soup and Pub Quiz.

Just a theory.

would have thought the copywrite licence is the same regardless of which menu the game is in..

quiz machine where i work is fully loaded with non branded games that are straight rip-offs of normal games..box clever and dart challenge...

we pay less rent/whatever due to the differences

i doubt that much thought goes into the selection process, it'll just be a profit and most popular contest... with new games that are expected to take off on there too...

done on a league system AFAIK.

If it doesn't get played enough, it goes.
Simple as that.

Nah cant believe that the horrible Treasure Island thing ever gets played anywhere. I have never seen anyone play it ...ever and that has been around at least 4 years.

I play it! As much for the offensive question set as for anything else.

Most of the prize money is given away randomly throughout the game and that is why you virtually never get to the end. You're not supposed to :-)

For being the first person ever to say anything positive about Treasure Island, and on your first post as well, are we in fact welcoming the actual creator of that lovely game?

Someone is going to be nice to the Great Escape games next...

P.S. Even if you aren't the Treasure Island man, welcome to the board!

It could be that the games you mentioned were paying out a little too much so they have removed it for a while until it has had an update to fix the problem and then reappear at some point.

In the most, games are removed due to low volumes of play. There are some games that have bucked this trend in the past for reasons which shall remain ensconced inside GW, but suffice to say that in the main it is due to popularity.

Can't see Family Guy being guilty of the too much payout. Must have been removed because nobody played it then.
