It's not really the best time in last 24 years to start it as a full-time career.

What is your background? Are you making money out of it now? What would you be doing otherwise?

Most Pros have been at it for years and don't really have anything better to do.

I make a regular profit out of the ITbox, i know thats not a great way to start, i have a good allround general knowledge, have thought about doing a recce to find other itbox machines in area as I understand that the questions are the same in each machine - i usually play the 100=1 gane. I used to play a lot years ago, never got round to doing it full time then, just thought I'd love to give it a go while I aint earning much money doing what I'm doing now.

There are a few players on here who are professional, in the sense that they support themselves solely from their SWP playing (and income from past SWP winnings), but I think most of us are probably in the "talented part-timer" category - I certainly am, and can't ever see myself making the switch to full-time status - I earn a decent(ish) salary in my day job and I can't see myself ever forsaking that for the unpredictability (and likely lower amount) of SWP winnings, however tempting that may be (I hate my job!)

I'd hate to discourage you, but think carefully before investing large amounts of time, effort, or foregone opportunities elsewhere, in the dream of being an SWP professional. There aren't many about (I'd imagine less than 20 in the country - that could be a bit of an underestimate, but I bet it's two figures), and to make a decent living off it I'd say you need to be pretty seriously good. Look back at some of the threads on here where pros / full-timers have been considered and you'll see there are a few extremely proficient players about.

BUT - if you are making money from the itBox, that's a reasonable start (of course you don't say how much - £3? £15? £40? per itBox), as 99 per cent of SWP players must lose money I think, and assuming you don't have a significant opportunity cost of so doing (i.e. foregone job opportunities etc.) why not ramp up your play and see where it gets you?

Don't assume, though, that every game has the same question bank - whilst there are fundamentally four or five major banks and some crossover between games, most games do have different emphases on different parts of banks and it's very rare that skills learnt on one game can be ported entirely to a different game. But if you have a natural love of general knowledge, a good memory, and find that with practice you can get appreciably better at games, then I guess those are the basics.

Good luck, and keep us up to date with how you fare.

Many thanks for that very thoughtful response Grecian. It has given me much to think about.
