Fruit Machine Rental

I have recently been fortunate enough to come across a decent sum of money. I decided: rather than treat myself I should invest my money in something that is pretty much a dead cert' to generate me more cash. After watching a friend of mine stick a ton in the fruit machine at my local, the idea hit me of slot machine rentals.
So far I've had a bit of trouble finding the information I require but I think that I don't need to acquire any sort of license to go ahead in renting the lower jackpot/play fruit machines (<£35/50p), am I right in believing this?
All help is appreciated but really I'm looking for the laws regarding fruit machine rental, general renter-rentee profit share ratios and maybe an idea of what machines would be good to start out with (preferable cheap to lower the risk of a screw up).
Thanks in advance.
Edit: I see now that I do need a license, looking into what it entails now.

I was browsing that site just as you posted. I'm downloading the application form for a "Gaming machine technical (supplier)" license.

Don't think you can rent a machine these days as an individual. The industry guys on here will know more than me.

I don't see anything wrong with slot rental and I don't want to jump into any investment too complex.

Have you a site in mind ? The authorities would take a dim view if it was in your garage.

Unfortunately in current climate opening a business of any kind requires extreme care and diligence. The gaming industry is on it's arse with major established names going to the wall, you should tread with extreme care.
However if you were going to give this a try I would consider holding down a regular job, while at the same time looking for possible sites to locate your machines. This will minimise your risk. I would also consider looking at £25 jackpot machines, it is considered that these play better and are available at approx £150 (raiders/darts etc). Know your stuff and visit about 20 pubs a week, give them your card and ask if you can offer them a better deal. Perhaps a 50/50 split after tax and other cost have been covered. Slowly you could build up a number of sites, with minimal risk/ outlay. Don't really think it's a full time job to start with, you need to take out as little for yourself as possible.
You never know you, as and individual with minimal overheads you may be able to offer a better deal/ service. Try and learn from the mistakes of LL etc.

Good advice from Mr. Monitor there.
Also remember that most brewery owned/chain pubs will already have an unbreakable tie to one of the major operators.

Agreed, most breweries will only take on contracts with the larger operators, those operators with brewery contracts have to supply machines only on the breweries machine rental list, and on top of that pressure from the brewery machine controllers in keeping their major sites stocked with the latest games only increases costs to the operator.
Operating with free trade sites to start would be your only option and that is cut throat at it's best.
These are the lower end of the rental scale with owners looking for the best machines at the lowest rent and no contract.Other operators frequently visit offering the same machines or even newer than you and with a lower rental term or free weeks of rent if they change over.
The site has the upper hand when they ring you to either match the offer made by the rival company or remove your equipment as they have nothing to lose.
Over the years in some cases have given no warning at all, as the first time you hear about a change over is Quote"your gear is in the car park".
If you do apply for a gaming license, the forms, requirements such as Technical Standards and checks you have to go through on a new application will probably put you off.
