S16 Help needed

Post by Drpepper »

Hey

I don't actually require help, just a bit of advice...

My mate and his family always go to redcar for a bit of a gamble once a week, and his granddad always plays the S16 machines, the odd thing is, in about 10 trips he's never lost once, always making a profit of £60+.

Now i know these things are random, and i know they're suspicious of him by now, so he won't be using some emptier as he's not that type, plus he'd have been found out by now.

And i've tried to explain to his family how a S16 is totally random and how theres no skill to it, and how he'll get caned one day, and they just think im some sort of misery guys or something, and nor them or their granddad know what a S16 machine is or how it works.

So out of curiousity I went with them this time, and whilst we took a break he went in, and about 15 mins later came out with £200 in £20 notes, with everyone laughing at me thinking i'm a stupid cunt saying "Aye they're random, look at all that money  " and other irritating things.

So is it just a case of him being incredibly lucky? Also should i have a word with him, as i think he wouldn't know what to do if he lost, probably plough money in thinking he'll be in profit soon.

And i know like me you're suspicious that he's just lying when he doesnt win, but they always watch him so i know he's not.

So what would you do if you were me? I'd usually just leave him, but they arent exactly rich so if he did do his nuts for a grand or summit they'd be in a bit of trouble. Is there anything i can do?

Cheers

Do you know the name of the S16 he's playing?
In 99% of cases, you're right he is being incredibly lucky. And no, the luck won't last. There was a trick for gaining free credits on a S16 a while back but he doesn't sound like the sort of person who'd have stumbled across that kind of info to me (the name of the S16 escapes me..)

Well the things you've said already are pretty responsible comments. Keep emphasising that those things are RANDOM, hence no player is more or less likely to win, but that in the long run losses heavily outweigh gains on these machines.

It's difficult talking to people older than yourself when they've made the decision on how to spend their money. They will feel they've earned the right to choose how they use it and maybe feel slightly more inclined to take risks with it. And likewise, he may find it hard to take 'advice' from someone junior to himself. So you'll have to just keep casting doubt on whether it's a wise way to play without making too much of a scene and hope he sees the potential dangers.

So you didn't actually see him play the machine? Do you know how much money he put in to get his £200? I know there random but in 10 trips the chances of him making a profit every time are pretty slim.

Think it was Slotto, one of the first versions. It was only last year - my poor befuddled brain is struggling to remember things that happened 5 minutes ago let alone last year lol :)

Thinking about it, isn't the payout 94%.

So being as simple as possible, lets just say for argument sake the chances of winning are 47% so 0.47, the chances of him winning 10 times in a row are 0.47^10, which admittedly are not good, i work it out to be about 0.02%, is that a fair calculation?

And nar i've never seen him play, but am getting more suspicious tbh, i might ask to watch next time.

The payout on the original Slotto is switchable between 94% and 96%, but these figures are only really realised on a random machine when over £150k or so has gone through it. Will the opinion of a S16 programmer convince your mate's family? Here it is:-

"S16 MACHINES ARE RANDOM."

SURELY your granda wouldnt be clued up on the slotto emptier though?! lol

Not exactly something youd stumble upon.

Yeah, its been just luck. Best try and stop him before its too late.

These machines can suck, and suck, and..... well :)

S16 used to play these loads in casino's after playing a table game (i.e. blackjack). They are awfull (lost loads on them, won big money out of them a couple of times) although if you see someone put a couple of hundred through the back of one it is worth a couple of quid to see if you get on the feature board (well when i say feature just usually some fancy animation that comes up with a biggish win)

Only thing I would suggest is if you play these. Play them on the maximum number of lines available usually 20. More chance of winning plus nothing more annoying than a win coming in on a line you have not covered!!!!!

But as everyone else has said I would stay away from these as they are really addictive and its about the only thing where you have as much chance winning if you are a five or thirty year old

I dunno, if someone was doing one they probably wouldn't think twice about an old man standing next to the slotto playing a low-tec or something. Unlikely, but I like to speculate :)
