redlinesman I think you are being a bit over the top, reds are much rarer now than they used to be and alot of pubs have only dond/globals - how is this machines in their prime. Ok there is cleudos etc. but they aren't that common, and the chipped ones aren't really great anyhow.

Also any major town or services etc. is usualy comatose (thankfully this is not where I often go :P).

About pubs closing down its definantely true, for example where I live there used to be 6 pubs in town have shut and thats over half of them. Also 2 that did have machines now don't - this is quite a common practice, as pubs do refits and "posh up" they often take the machines - this is especially the case in village/out of the way pubs.

RE: your £450 friday, yeh ok I often do £400 days on long days too, but the former points I have just made above are still nonetheless true, you only do these sort of days if you have locations that no one else is doing of old reds and unchipped cluedo/panthers - the theme here IS OLD MACHINES!!!.

I really hope you aren't stupid enough to believe machines will go on for ever, if that is the case - oh dear....

Am I the only person who gets a bit irritated by the figures that are banded about sometimes.

No disrespect to "redlinesman" but £50-£100k is a sh*t load of cash and (while entirley possible) a £450 day is, I can imagine for most of us, a VERY good day (if I can average £100 for each day played then I'm happy, £150-£200's a result!).

Like I said, I'm not picking on anyone in particular but I get tired of reading the old "I've got 47 win stoppers, 120 panthers and and 46 u/c p5's and make about £1,000,000 a day" type-thing....am I alone in this?

redline m8 i have no crystal ball. and at no point in my doom and gloom post did i say that this info was 100percent goin to happen ,

basically a friend who has a friend who supposedly works for the gaming commission, said that as of sep 1st this year, a law will pass prohibiting all manus from producing any more cat c machines, however they can live out there natural lifespan, read into it what you will,

i suppose a well looked after maintaind machine could last ten years or more, but why would they bother when the new sort can list unlimited fruitys on a single terminal ,

less repairs etc

as i said many months ago, if rumers are true, i never said for definite, but any fool with half a brain can see where this game is goin.

my main run i do every 2days and theres enuff stuf on it to make 400plus on,,,,, i can make 300 1day say then 2 days later only make 100 on it because things have gone shit or havent been played up since my last visit, it usually balances out around 600 a week plus the days inbertween for family time wife other things etc,,,,,, or what i like to call searching days getting lost looking for country pubs,

anyone who says they make 300plus each and every day is talking out there rusty sheriffs badge

Been at it today since Nobles opened at 8.30am and just more or less finished, so I think Im entitled to earn a good whack. Not saying its everyones cup of tea to be working hours like this, but Ive probably visited over 50 pubs today and wouldn't be happy with myself if I'd only made £200. I set my own standards, but I do understand how people might get irritated when figures are branded about. Im not saying I have 20 p5s or 30 win stoppers, I just play normal stuff, all day, at a reasonable pace (no wasting time) I nearly always play on my own, because I hate people slowing me down, and thats what normally happens if I go out with someone. I'll meet up with mates for a few drinks as the day comes to an end and buy a few rounds in, and relax a little.

Im a bit puzzled regarding the poster who says that new cat c machines are going to be outlawed from Sep 1st. A category c machine is categorised by the stake 30p/50p, and a maximum jackpot of £35 and are the ones we find in nearly every pub and other establishments. These are the machines we know as AWPs, and as the pub is a big part of British culture, governments don't want to expose the general public to higher stakes gambling because it would be them who gets the blame and them who would have to sort out the reprucussions of that. Pubs would love to have high stake jackpots on their premesis, would love to have fobt's lined up in a row, but it simply will never be allowed. As far as cat c machines being outlawed, why an earth are they still been mass produced if they are to become more or less redundant to whatever is taking their place from Sep 1st. I suggest somehow you've got mixed up with the new gambling laws from Sep 1st last year when power was passed over from government to local authorities.

Having never reallly used a message board much before, I may not quite understand the concept of what a post should be. Maybe my posts are a bit longwinded and serious but Im not in this game as a hobby. It's serious stuff and serious money and if it wasn't, I wouldn't have the slightest bit of interest in it. Fruit machines won't last for ever, they could be finished in 6 months, but I'd bet every penny I could, that they won't be. When I was an apprentice at Forest I never believed I could be capable of doing anything else apart from playing football. I've spent time trading on the sports markets, using the Elite Trading Centre as my base in London which ended up being a great experience and provided me with skills I could use tomorrow if I wished. Sometimes in life, change is a great thing, so when the bandits do end, I hope I can take it in my stride. I find posting nice long messages quite theraputic after a hard days graft.

So do I.

You must have been barred from a fair few pubs in your time.....? Or not?

Redlinesman, as the fruit would say "good for you son", seems you're doing really well and that's some good money you're making.

I think the thing is that I come from the completely opposite end of the scale (although I doubt I'm any worse a player).

I don't go out on my own, I will always meet up for a drink or 6 with my mates if the opportunity arises (even if it makes GUAC a bit harder to hit!).

I treat fruits as a leisurly past-time and use it to pay for my nights out and hopefully some extra for the week.

Glad you're doing so well but, having played like that before, couldn't go back, it did my head in!!

Well done though on the good results and all the best.

All we have had in past two years is DOND from Bell fruit, Barcrest nowt and now the word is that they are building in China and their software is out sourcing to guess where...... INDIA. They're struggling because basically all of the above AND they've put nearly all there investment into those Video AWP's that simply arent doing as well as they predicted. players dont like them and neither do the pubco's
you don’t just jump into bed with Terry Tibbs, you take Terry Tibbs out to lunch, you wine and dine him, you give him an oil massage then he gives you 1950 if you’re lucky!

To be honest, it serves the machine operators and owners riight. All business are interested doing now days is filling up the cash boxes and ripping of the general punters.

Look at the change in game play over the past 12-18 months.. ? 25 quid machines - a few horror stories came in now and again, 35 is here and people are putting in 300-400-500+ for a flat 35, and 6 hours of effort. Since the 35's i rarely now ever force for a JP, its not worth it, trouble is, im putting in 8-10-12-15-19 quid for a board which offers 2 moves then dead. wtf.

So, its no wonder general mr punter with loose change from his round will stick it in the machine with ever less % of getting a board. People learn from mistakes. The golden rule for machines " no pay, no play" its as simple as that !

I started playing these back in the 15 quid days, and earned over a grand a month, as well as paying for drinks food etc during the day. Those days are long gone. Fortunately i have a day job, and always have had. I heard horror stories of people getting hold of trick's and leaving their jobs to do 'fruit machines'.. how short sited could they have been !!!!.

"This serves them right" - couldn't agree more. I've said it countless times, on several occasions on this site as well - fruit machines are no longer fun. Italian Job, DK, SBG, Homer's Meltdown, Pacman...these were wonderful machines we can enjoy. Games Media and Bell Fruit have ruined everything with constant cloning of appalling designs and I for one think this is very much simply "coming home to roost" for them.

Until machines regain their appeal, the business will decline - simple as.
