There's a useful article about the odds of winning the different tiers of prizes on The Money Saving Expert Website. If that's the same link that mattrick has provided then sorry. If it isn't just google money saving expert and you'll get there.

Not as good an investment as most ISAs out there, but you get that shot to nothing feeling where you could win it big.

Any way.... back on topic.. premium bonds, whats the score with these things, must admit i'm a cluey on the subject... once invested is that that?, can you cash them back in or is it a life thing, and whats the min investment, for a lowly semi mental person such as yours truly?...

funny this thread had been re-opened ,,,,,,,,, only a week or so ago , i cashed in my 30k ,,,,,, as for the last 12 months ive earnt on average 50quid every 2 months,,,, pathetic .

paid the cheque into natwest ,,,, will be clear next wed/thur time.

anyone got any sound investment advice ????

sensible replies please ,,,,,,,, :P ,,,,,,,, no bank of hrk , or similar suggestions .

Not an awfull lot you can do with 30 large tbh investment wise... although its a vast lump sum, property is a no go, as is a small buisness venture.... Its just cash on the hip really... maybe an isa, or back a friend to try get something going if you trust them enough..

Hard call...Also supprised you cashed in ....your not short of a bob or two..but i guess thats your perogative as you outlayed the cash to begin with...

Surprised you did that Lee. I'm assuming you pay your 3600 into an ISA every year so there really is no other options as far as 'riskfree savings' are concerned.

You've also just got yourself flagged up and run the risk of being investigated for shifting 30k around (paid into an account one week, moved out the next lol).

As daft as it sounds, unless your a Richard Branson you arent supposed to have that sort of money in the UK and the powers that be always assume its hooky.

Ive known of toolers (admitidly, that is hooky money) get done for money laundry and get fucked purely because they cannot prove where the money came from (and nor can you). Quite interesting really, considering they never got done for the actual tooling part.
