i have to start this thread with a bit about myself, this is not done to be self indulgent and if you bare with me the reason will become apparent. ...... i like many on here would consider myself old school, being 36 and having cut my teeth on 2p rat races etc, started out knowing nowt (some would say i still dont lol(shut up pyney ady lol) gambling my bus fare home etc...and it wasnt till the 10pound cash era usherd in that ive never looked back. i dont mind admiting ive done very well out of the path i have chosen, and there are many players and friends that i owe a great deal of gratitude to........the point to all this is for every long term player ,throughout the years ,you often ponder the question will i still be doin this for a living when im 30,40,50 etc???? ........well if rumors are to be true then this question has been answered for us. the rumour states that as of sep 1st 08 all manus must cease production of cat c machines (thats everything we play) to be replaced by rng bandits. if this is true then for me and many others it will be truly game over (NO EXTRA LIFE LOL) i for one will not continue to play a machines where ya dad lol has as much a chance of winning as me................then what do we all do?? oh i know what some of you are thinking ,stop whinging lee just get a job or invest the money youve accumulated over the years into a business or something,.......well im sure that i speek for other long termers on here that the mere thought of a job terrorises me, having never had one. its not about the money, this has been my way of life for as long as i can remember ,,the psychological change would be massive. having always lived by my own rules ive no respect for authority, the minute im in a 9to5 dead end job and someone tells me to sweep some shit up il break the brush over his head ..........just cant do the job route ...besides all this ive no trade or workskills so its toilet cleaner at mcdonalds ,,employers arnt exactly looking for someone who can hit a cludo for an executive position ........anyways ive rambled on enuff now .....my thanks and sympathies to all that have persevered with my words ,,,,,,,,,,,,,your thoughts gentleman please???????? lee

Trayhop, unlike u, i have previously worked,
although that being over 10 years ago,
this 'september' thing when our world comes crashing down
may result in us divulging in2 other things i'm not convinced
it will be the end of slotting altogether,
there has always been a whisper about something in the industry
remember it is still run by the same people with the same dodgy programmers ......
TIME WILL TELL!

I'm not accusing you of living off the state. The goverment have that much off people anyway I encourage anyone to encourage people to claim what they can, but when I've worked 6 days a week for the last 14 years to pay for a house, holidays, nice clothes and going out for me and my family i'm sure you can understand my feeling towards somebody that's scared of working ?
Fair play you've beat the bandits, If I didn't enjoy my job I'd be jealous of you but you asked for thoughts and thats mine.

Well fairplay.

Hold on now. You're 36. £10 cash jackpots. That was.....hmmm......let me see 11 years ago wasn't it isn't it? Hmmm?

1997ish. '96. So you were 25 at the time you started winning. So you must have been losing for at least ten years before hand. How did you support yourself before then? If it DOES get as bad as your rumour says it might (which I doubt) then just get a job in finance. I've seen some ropey fools in that sector, if they can do it and not get sacked, then someone with a bit of acumen can do it. No sweeping up, but you will have people above you. That's life, humble pie time, it's not that bad. Well do whatever appeals to you, but I said finance as most fruity bloopers have quick mathematical brains.

If you were caning it from £10 jackpot days, surely you have some other business interests? Unless you live a very hedonistic lifestyle. If you have some funds to fall back on, it'll give you time to adjust and decide on a new career. If that's Mark Pyne and Ady Carnapoussis you're on about, Ady has links with Dave Chapman the MD of CGL Insurance Ltd. He also knows someone big in IGT, but that's another flip of the coin. So again that's insurance, so you know.....check which doors are open. Hope it works out for you..

If that really is whats gonna happen, then I'm shitting it. Its the psychology as you say. I cant fathom the scenario where I cant just have a chinese meal tonight on a whim, because it'll cost £20 that I can no longer just pop out for 10 mins to a cluedo to make back. I'd have to wait till the end of the month, and the money then will pay the bills, so, i need to work an extra five hours at £5.50 an hour (pre tax) to pay for my whim. And of course, more worryingly, you can't teach an old dog etc etc...

But, personnaly, I've been wanting out for a long time (almost 10 years in now :( )and I've made a lot of postitive steps towards what I know will be a rewarding career in the last few months. So, if you right, I'm lucky, I've already accepted it and am already in the process of moving on.

I have to admit tho, I'm jealous of the other proper players around me who are that bit older, and have been working towards saving, and paying off mortgages for the past few years. Mainly because I'm only 27 and have only been playing as a proper job for 2 years. If I hadn't supported all my skint chumbs, worked propely and not partied constantly for so many years, I'd be seriously minted! Anyway, I digress. (At least I drive a 911! :p)

Either way, just because they can't make cat c's anymore, doesn't mean they wont be about. They'll hang on for a while, and if the new breed doesn't provided cash box return, maybe they'll re-surface. Or maybe they'll be about long enough to give us enough to live off untill the first tricks start to arise.

I do however beleive that the UK government fully endorce and actively want vegas style machines all round. It certainly fits in with the new gambling laws, and if they hit percentage, then why risk a fluctuation in a reasonably reliable tax income stream? And then the cynic in me believes also that they aint dumb to what we do, and simply 10's millions of pounds are won/defrauded (via empties, its fraud in their eyes) by the likes of us, and they cant tax it(lets nots lie, it is an income, lucks got nothing to do with your bottom line).

To reply more directly to your post. I feel were f00ked. But, positively, you are already in a job, and I imagine you work almost the same hours as most 'normal' workers around you, just because you decide what they are doesn't make it less of a job. Also your job is already a dead end job.

Look at shift work for your move onto the employment ladder, plenty places will let you work three 13 hour a day a weeks, that isn't too far from what you'll be doing now.

On what grounds do you state this sept. 2008 thing, it sounds like a lot of speculation...

As a reply to your post in general, I'm happy to milk the money off machines for the moment, when it ends, it ends, got a good degree (and indeed masters degree) that only finished last year, so when it's over I'll get myself a proper job....

As for other full time players without such qualifications....I'd be a bit more concerned.... as an aside I might add that I know a few players that invested in business's from fruit money, they all ended up LOSING money - it's easier said than done, don't kid yourself.

to gambogaz first of all let me say soz to you for the green eyed monster quip it was childish, ..... but you have to see the bigger picture and what this means to us come september. can i assume that you havent been in this game for as long as some of the others? and therefore cant fully appreciate the term massive psychological change ?? im not talking about part timers (weekend wedgers lol) im sure there are many people who can slip back into conventional society, im sure a job is seen as a walk in the park to some. and there is nothing wrong with that ......but for many others on here, not just me the very thought of a ""conventional"" job is a very real fear............to uber pro couldnt aggree with you more,,,,,,,,,

Where does it say any of this is going to happen anyway? I had a look on the Gambling Commision website and can't find any mention of it.

While I dont believe Settember 1st 2008 will mean waking up and heading off to the local mugs to see that your Golden Games have been replaced by a 4-player Elvis and that your Cluedo has been subjected to the skip outside along wih your Road to Riches etc

I do believe however, that between now and a couple of years time this will become the case, not instantly but gradually!

Now take the hint, plan for those days NOW and dont wait for it to happen or face a life of burger selling and cleaning the local shopping centre with those metals thingys...... you know what I'm on about.
