hello esteemed gentlemen, i noticed a titbox in an arcade near me the other day. just wondering if this is commonplace. i don't often go in these but might have to if SWPs are taking a foothold.

any info appreciated.

cheers

I saw one peeking out of an arcade in Edinburgh - I was in a rush, but not so much of a rush that I didn't have time to extact an Ayrton out of WU.

Generally speaking they don't have them though. I think they would get more income from an AWP.

On the other hand, pop into your local bookies (I think it's Bill Hill)... some of them have 3-4 IT-Boxes, all lined up in a row for you.

excellent, good work on the WU tenner YE. as you know that was what i was getting at really.

i will have a recce today. although i am such an indisciplined gambler that i'll probably lose more than i win on the tuppenny waterfalls.

but aren't the betting shop dimwitboxes just filled with virtual dogs, roulette etc?

also it is a bit clandestine to post in here rather than the SWP forum but i'm banking on my immediate competition (Grecian, GGDR, NM etc.) not reading in here.

I had a Paragon 3 in one of my local arcades, but about a month later it was removed.

Yes, very surreptitious Sue!

Sadly, the IT-boxes in bookies are filled with games which require absolutely no skill or knowledge. Although I've never tried playing Virtual Dogs, it seems very similar to the machine you used to get in arcades where you bet 2p's on which horse is going to win a race. i.e. absolute bollocks. Actually, I think Blackjack is appearing on it these days which at least requires a modicum of skill, but everything else is pretty much luck.

As an aside, my friend's da used to tell us tales of guys flipping coins for £50 round the back of Shotts market (a shady shady town in Lanarkshire). As little fun as that sounds, it would still offer a better rate of return than FOBTs in bookies.

I've been into a great many arcades over the years, and could count on the fingers on 1 hand the number which also had a quiz machine of some description - I would say it's almost not even worth your while poking your head round the door.

If you're looking for high-paying slightly-less-obvious places, try hotels, student union bars, bus stations and bowling alleys.

I suspect you'll only find them in arcades that have the space, but don't want to pay for another AWP licence - so they fill it with a licence free SWP as a little cash is better than none! :)

Agreed uni bars can be a goldmine. Students are never as clever as they think after five pints. :)

i can well believe people bet £50 on the flip of a coin, at my working men's club some wideboys would bet odd or even on the serial number of £20 notes. sdyoopid bastards.

i'm not busy today so i will have a look around later and see what is what. there are no bowling alleys where i am but plenty of hotels so i'll check them out. as well as the arcades. i'll give the students a week or so before i have their loans out of the machines though.

so long as i'm back in the office for a very important meeting at 17.15 that will be okay.

Shame on you Sue- as something of a reformed AWP player I always have a lurk around here. :P

agh! my diabolical ruse has been found out.

it will take many a noble deed to cleanse that blot on my honour.

a little epilogue. i went to four different arcades, none of which had an SWP machine. however other machines relieved me of £40 in coin :|

Can't remember the name of it, but if you walk down Nicolson St away from the castle, it's on the right-hand side. It's not very big.

There were five in the arcade at haggerston castle holiday park.

There's still a standalone WWTBAM in whitby, and a weakest link in scarborough i think.
