Stupid fruit machines.

Hey.

After a few months of explaining to my GF how gambling is profitable and how the machine doesn't always win she decided to let me show her a thing or 2.. but i was only allowed to demonstrate on 1 machine as she didn't really wanna see.

So as we were walking past the arcades i thought it might be safer to use a £5 machine as an example... and decided upon an AFU that's usually ok... not today though.

Whilst she watched on, she watched me getting more and more annoyed at the fact it had to pick this exact moment in time to take THIRTEEN POUNDS for a board(That did JP but she was still none too pleased.) So that's her belief of gambling being any good shattered, just my luck. May as well have just dumped £10 into a £35 machine and whacked mega spins on, stupid life.

My misses has much the same attitude regarding the fruities.

I never play to heavily when she's about and she's usually quite happy to help me drink the winnings ... but god, lose a quick tenner trying a dead machine and you should see the face on her

women and fruits don't mix

Pretty much the reason I left the game - even though you can show them you are raking in thousands (I once had her iron my £20 notes so I could get them into nice £1K bundles to fit in the safe) it's not a 'job'. It's against everything society and her parents told her was responsible in life. Being a drug dealer is actually more acceptable to them ! Figure that one out. It all comes back to the original premise of "you can't beat the machines" mentality that people who have never thought about it objectively have.
So, you have a choice over never having a decent relationship with a woman, or giving up fruits and doing something else. Thankfully I'm pretty nifty on unix, so I have something else to make money on that requires no real effort.
If anyone else finds themselves in the girlfriend situation, a useful cover that worked well for me for many years was that I was an IT consultant (not strictly untrue), hence I had to travel alot and be away most of the week.
It's a sad fact of life that people care so much about where and how you get your money. You'd have thought you'd get at least a cursory nod for using your intelligence to make a living from gambling, which is not easy to do consistently. Anyone who thinks it is, you are delusional. Like anything else in life, it requires hard work and effort. If it were that easy, everyone would be at it.

Yeah i agree with people here, whilst it's primarily poker i play i did want to show her that gambling can be profitable, and her parents have the same attitude, and so does she, and all this did was reinforce it.

I would let her watch me play poker one day, but it's plain to see she's a fucking jinx so i don't think i'll bother.

My girlfriend is absolutely fathomed by them. She doesnt undestand them at all. I've tried explaining them to her loads of times - just doesnt get through. She thinks the idea is to get 3 fruits in a row, but doesnt grasp the number trail at all. I think its the 'randomness' of when the trail helds and when it doesnt. If there was a specifc rule the machine followed then i think she would get it. E.G. the trail always holds twice in a row, giving the player 3 spins to get up to 8 and then it resets. But it doesnt, it just does it when it wants to and i think this what confuses her as she doesnt undertand why the machine is offering a hold with 2 cherries and 1 other fruit and i'm just spinning without holding anything. (Becuase i have a full trail and am after just one more number).

Multi line wins confuse her even more. Dont get me started on that. Especially when your playing 5 winlines on a Hilbillonaire that is giving you tic tac toe!!

She really loves the 'collect feature' button on Reds. Everytime she sees one she is like "omg, look at that button! That is so cool! Hey everyone! Look at this button! Please can i press it! Please can i press it! Please can i press it!". It goes on for about 5 minutes, everytime she sees one. And then she gets upset when i wont let her press it because its offered me something crap that Pick a Win! I've probably collected way more features on Reds then i should hvae done.

In a nutshell, they way she views it is: He goes off for between 5-30 minutes, and then comes back with janggerling pockets. So she aint that bothered. :)

(Most of you have probably already gathered this but, yes, she is a dumb blonde!) :)

Heheh :D

I have the same problem with one of my mates.....he can't grasp the refill concept. He'll say stuff like going down the bowling alley today? (Friday). I'd be like nah, did everything yesterday. He'll then go 'yeah but they fill them all up friday morning, so you'll win more'.

D'oh! :x

My Mrs loves 'em too but i have to keep tabs on her, I'll be in the casino having a flutter on the old Roulette and she will be innocently pumping fifty quid into the Elvis Machine at £2 a spin, rejoicing when 10p appears on the winline!

I don't even want to talk about that leprechaun one! Whats that called by the way? The old women of Blackpool always seem to get it to drop. I, on the other hand, don't.

Nowadays i just stick the mrs in the garage to play my Jackpoteers on Free play, best investment yet!

My wife is very cool with them. In fact, she's good to have around when we do the rounds as it makes it look a bit more legit when there is a couple playing than when you wander in by yourself and want to look subtle.
She is the boss of all non skill repeats and always says "that jumped" when it psuedo's to no.
Having said that, her last 3 Red tops have repeated to £105 so she thinks she's on a roll at the moment.
She's also managed to rip a £5jp Pink Panther at the coast with no help from me setting the lines and sh.
