Crying because they have to pay extra duty on their FOBT earnings. They make me sick. Might start a 'disable FOBT note-acceptor' campaign. I'm all for independent bookmakers, the vast majority of the public like a flutter on various sporting events, but chain bookmakers are simply digital casinos blighting high streets the length and breadth of the nation.

Everything is sponsored by gambling these days, just like everything used to be sponsored by tobacco,it will come to an end just a matter of when

Things that earn money won't 'come to an end'. It's funny you mention tobacco cos I mentioned it to my local bookie as I signed the petition with a false name. My point is everyone knows tobacco kills you but the government makes money out of whilst pretending it gives a shit (and I'm a smoker). Same goes for gambling. Shit or get off the pot.

How much would the government lose a year if they totally banned smoking?
Anybody know the figures.

2011 figures were tax revenue of 9.5 billion pounds.
I could go on and mention the savings due to reduced hospital smoking related admissions etc but that is Russ's department. Nonetheless that's the sort of value we're looking at here.
If smoking was totally banned, how much money would go into the pockets of black marketeers?

Anyone remember those adverts on the back of glossy mags 'Smoking kills' and you'd have a snail on a dagger cutting into someone's bleeding lung?

I'm with doingthem on this. It's the sport events. Watch a game of football lately?
With 2 bet365 ads at every break. Bookie adds around the stadiums.
Now I don't watch snooker but it used to be benson and hedges sponsored.
So yes, smoking kills but bookies ruin families, but that's ok..

Why don't the public all go in them with a form "back your local community" and what it requires is......binning off Fobt's and just doing over counter bets. They have slots online anyway and keybets could be moved to online lol
