If any of you remember me I moved to New Zealand some time ago and I just spent 2 years here and have been given another 2 year visa. Hoping I can become a resident soon. I came here because I was sick of the UK but mainly because my gambling was getting out of control and I was losing it really.

As for gambling over here, well they have pokies which are really bad and completely random kind of thing you might find in Vegas or the casino and they award free spins. They are also linked to a jackpot which runs between $800 and $1000 and it can go at anytime and that’s a big pull for the addict I’ve seen a Jackpot go at $980 and other times it goes at $810 so it’s totally randome. I once saw a drunk guy spend his last $1 and won $900 and he didn’t know till some chinese guy told him . I try not to play them but they are super addictive and will admit ive had my losses but on the whole its under control. I’m lucky as they don’t have FOBTs and that was the big problem for me.

As for pokies they pump a % of the winnings of the money back into the community but they are also trying to get the banned. The amount of $ they make compared with the $ that people lose in them is peanuts. Myself and others are arguing that the government can fun local communities via other means and not via the machines. It’s sad really as gambling is a massive problem here and they don’t have FOBTs. There is absolutely no skill involved and no emptiers or cheats sadly.
