Would you be interested in this online machine-list planner?

To those that don't know me, my main profession is web/software development and I've been toying with an idea for a while... As I have some free over the summer I may try to pull off! I just wanna know if it's worth it/interest/plot holes.

Anyway, the idea is effectively "The Players Planner".

Basically it will be a web site (maybe an app in the far-far future) where you can list/mark all of the pubs/locations across the UK on a map, add information like what supplier, what fruit machines they have etc and then drill in to each machine to say when you last played it, how much you made etc.

Here are some features I was thinking it could have:
  • Fruit Finder - An emptier/method comes out, you search for "Banker Rings Twice" - it then shows you all BRTs
  • Route Planner - Combined with above, it could draw/print you a route on Google Maps!
  • Pub Finder - Can show you locations of fruit-equipped pubs in new areas
  • Due To-Do List - It could list the fruits you haven't been to for a while
  • Due To-Change List - As you update a pub with machines as they change, it will be able to suggest if a pub has probably changed machines
  • Profit Log - As you log details about money made on machines, you could see what machine/pub/area makes you the most money
  • Pub Fruit Log - Looking for a specific machine? This could tell you what pubs have had it before
  • Supplier Info - Info on various suppliers and contact names should you need to claim an IOU
All data would be private to the use to make this work, people wouldn't want to share data!

Maybe charge something £25 a month? Probably free to start off with. It could easily help maximise profits/time by planning out routes/showing you new pubs etc.

Well the data would be 100% private, only accessible to the person who logged in.

I agree the pen and paper could suffice but they could never keep an endless/calculated log of locations, fruits which could be interesting/helpful to the hardcore player. You'd be able to see your best day, best month, year, machine etc if you kept it up to date

im not knocking your idea dunz m8

but fruits change location every cpl of months or so , and most of us just make a mental note of when to re-check etc

its not a bad idea i suppose for players to have their own database though i suppose ,,,,,,, if only for statistical analysis / profit margin charts ,,,,,, and as it builds over the years , some good nostalgic reading etc

despite this , i cant see 95% of players being arsed with it though ,,,,,,,,

best of luck n all that bud ,,,,,,,,,, but cant see you getting many users

Most players are fundamentally lazy, many are intelligent enough to enter other areas of work....but like the freedom that this path offers. Its not a bad idea though....i cant see it taken up though

Private google map + points of interest = free. You can even have different machines as filterable points. This idea is looking to solve an organisational problem that doesn't exist for most players.

There is no reason for any individual to have a computer in their home. - Kenneth Olsen, president and founder of Digital Equipment Corp., 1977.

Plenty of other things that have been tagged with the baring "it'll never work".

If people worked together a little its a splendid idea. I mean who wouldn't love the idea of landing in a town/city for the first time and rather than waste a fair amount of time searching for playables have all the information their looking for to hand.

People pay for lists and they get changed on an almost daily basis doesn't stop people wanting them tho

nice idea dunhamzzz but trust me if it went ahead and you had a national up to date site list which i and prob many others have bought in past.
Your website would be hacked in a day.
Also you cant mend something that isnt broken, meaning the day of iphones ect and are mental ability to store locations are the only tools we need,
Respect for idea,
What u like at windows xp/me linux based emulation?

It certainly wouldn't be hacked in a day, I know how to secure a website!

What do you mean about emulation specifically? I don't really specialise in hacking OSs, more PHP/Database/front end stuff

Hi Guys

Not meaning to offend anyone here but this is probably one of the worst ideas in relation to our profession I've ever heard. Pro fruit playing is a bit like a dark art, it is underground, maybe not so secretive in some respects but I suspect many players will have their very own advantageous angles that they make use of. Many players are in direct competition with each other on a local level without telling the whole playing population what's where and when it’s worth it. Very bad idea if you ask me.

Kind Regards,

Sir Linesman

You would need a lot of people to update the information.Even if you allowed individuals to update your site, like wiki, some would abuse the priviledge. A very large initial investment would probablynever yield a return, even though it sounds a good idea in principle. There's still a very large number of pubs/clubs/bingo halls etcetera out there
