Do fruits rule your life?
Was having a chat with someone today about fruit players in general and it seems that much of our daily happiness is determined by what type of day we have at the office.
Fruit players come in different categories such as,
1. Casuals who play when they feel like it
2. Players who do it like a job, have regular hours etc but still have a life
3. Players who come out when they are on something decent
4. Addicts who need to play machines and gamble, regardless of earning potential
5. Players who are trying to accumulate money 'before it ends' ie secure their future/no need to work
I'd probably say the top 3 are the healthiest forms of machine playing where there is a clear distinction between earning money from fruits and your life as a human being. For me personally, I'd say I am a mixture between 2&3 as I do sort of work it like a job but may have spells on and off depending what method/trick I'm on. I wouldn't really say I'm trying to accumulate money as I rarely count what I've earned and think of it as a means to pay for my living even though I do obviously have extra to save. If I wasn't to save in a day, week or month though, it wouldn't really bother me, and a slow day doesn't get me down to any severity. Also don't really look at bank balance or share portfolios that often apart from checking everything is as it should.
I think the bottom 2 are the ones that can be destructive and where daily happiness becomes directly linked to fruit machines and profits. Obviously the addict is one who can not gain any real benefit as their mental processes are making them play fruits as they feel the need to do this constantly and will rarely be able to turn their mind to anything else. Those who are trying to accumulate money are normally playing fruits at every available opportunity and it takes up nearly all their life. When daily targets are not met this results in mental stress and unhappiness. It is often driven by an unlogical belief that one will not be able to exist or survive if they can no longer make money off fruits, in effect making them a slave to daily targets and profits to reach a point that can never be reached as the point of being secure will keep growing higher. Some players may do this for a short spell but it could become an obsession where it takes over every aspect of their life.
Any thoughts which are the most common type of player and what you regard yourself as?

I tend to have set times i go out playing....either 8-6, or 4-midnight.....my hours tend to be what i feel like to be honest. If im on an empty......i tend to travel and stay over in travel lodges etc....this can be pretty lonely at times tho. The last big empty i was on...i was doing 5 days away and then coming home at weekends to have time with freinds and stuff. I think there was mention of two gay players who are always out on the road....i forget there names, they might not actually be homos but thre out 24/7 which is kinda odd. I like my days off to spend with freinds, go and play golf, go out for lunch, cinema etc. when u loose prospective on life....whats the point of working, you might aswell kill yourself.
Life balance is a big thing, if i had a wife, gf or children. Idont think i wouldnt play as much as i do....id proabably do the normal 9-5, which would be hard as some places dont open until the evenings. Playing fruit machines for some players is a means to fund other avenues of gambling such as a roullette habit or a bookie habit, in these cases there existence is worthless in my mind. Proffesional fruit machine playing is a job, that im ashamed to hold. As people have stated it allows you freedom, you dont have to answer to the 'man', but it isnt really a healthy job. many players struggle to scape an existance, im not joking good players will go out and lose on days and they might scrap 150-200 quid a week. Routes, planning, timing are essential in maximising profit, i know sir rat was very good at keeping logs of machines, refill days etcetc.
Having enough machines to play is also an advantage, this is why the London player can do so well. If he finds one area burnt....its just on the tube or in the car to another area or out skirt. There were days when i could play 10 aliens, 10 dig its, couple or reds, few megas and come home with 6-700 pounds easily.....now im lucky to get 200. Im sure there will be something around the corner there always is. Ive been experimenting with some new games atm....usually when im down on a machine or when im up a load, i will invest a big of time trying new stuff out. Petrol, travel and food can eat into profits alot also, if u go to far and lose then ur stuck with a 50 quid fuel bill etc. There are alot of things to think about when playing, risk and reward. i personally dont like to take too many risks these days, but sometimes u have to.

I actually totally agree with your comments Red. I was a 2 for many years, but when £70 JP's came out the money became too good to relax. I have become a 5 and I hate it. I miss having a healthy lifestyle without worrying about stupid targets, but I don't see much longer in the game, so I tell myself I have to go through the misery while I still can.
The thing is once I actually get to a stage where I'm satisfied financially, what cost will it have had on my personality? Will the old me still be there to enjoy the money? I feel myself becoming closer to the stereotype I hate so much every day I continue like this. I'm becoming so boring nowadays, I rarely go out anymore and I miss my busy social life. What cost has it had on my health aswell? I've gone from being a total gym freak for years, with a perfectly formed physique, to an underweight and unhealthy mess.
I try to work out every new thing I see on machines, which can also become stressful. Constantly trying to one step ahead of everyone else is very hard.
I have a lot of car and property related stuff to do this month, so I'm taking some time off and not caring about fruit targets for once. I might go Cuba for a couple weeks soon as well. I really need some good time off before I send myself round the bend.
Oh and by the way Red, I don't believe I wouldn't be able to survive without fruits at all, but when they do end I want to have made the maximum out of it I could have. I look back on my early years playing and cringe at the chances I wasted and how much money I blew with my super expensive lifestyle. I feel guilty for living so recklessly and stupidly back then. It was a concious decision to become a workaholic which has benefitted me financially, but as you say, not mentally.

I would put myself between 1 and 2. I'm not a casual, but I can't treat it like a job as I already work full time. 9/10 times I make enough to never have to touch the bank account for normal expenditure - petrol, bills etc so I regard the saving part as the fact that when I get paid at the end of the month, last months salary is still in there, hence that's the money I regard as money I am saving/making due to playing fruits. Anything extra in the account on pay day beyond my chosen base line figure gets transferred into a savings account.
I do feel lucky that I have it this way round - job first, fruits second as it is much more likely to be that the job will survive whilst fruits don't in the long term. Sure the downside is not being out enough to keep on top of things, but I tend to stick to my local area anyway rather than travel very far. But I do have a switch off factor - so many hours/days playing for me and I have to stop as it loses the fun. Yes - I do enjoy the fun of playing but that's because the day job keeps it fresh when I do play.
This might sound a bit weird, but I think you have to be pre-disposed to being in category 4. A kind of genetic biological control switch that's missing. I liken it to say the amount of control you have when you drink alcohol - I have NEVER been so drunk in my life that I can't remember what I did, my brain just says no at a certain point. (Usually sick if I even tried to go beyond my limit anyway!) If you're that kind of genetic make up with strong self control over other aspects of your life, then it tends to kick in in all scenarios.
I'll admit I have had a good old flutter on the £500's in my time, but again, even say £500 in and easy access to a few K more, I will still walk rather than chase - I'd love to carry on, but I have the self control to walk due to my pre-disposition to be sensible.
I'm not a risk taker in any other aspect of life - God, I even feel self concious when I have to dance thinking people are looking at me, don't like to be the centre of attention - I'm a listener rather than a talker in large crowd situations (partly why I don't come to meets as I'm sure I'll come across as a bit of a recluse). 1-1 I'm all good though - talk to the cows come home. All of these aspects I am kind of glad I have - if my pre-disposition was to have no self control I'm sure I would have been stone broke years ago constantly scratching around for the next quid and fix.
I admire you guys that are at it every day - particularly the lads that have iron wills and won't let a bad hit ruin the day. It's just not for me, I'm sure there are a few more like me - but we are a minority - Matt Vinyl / JG I'm guessing are in similar positions work wise / play wise.

Mr McStreak
I'm purely a casual player these days, but over the years I have fitted all those categories at some point. I don't ever see myself playing fulltime again, unless something good comes along. Operating on a level playing field isn't for me, when it gets to the point where i'm having to compete with other players for scraps i'd rather leave them to it.
The state the industry is currently in does little to attract me. However over the weekend I heard some rather major news that may have a very interesting impact on the AWP sector in the future.

Is it that Noel Edmunds has purchased all the major manufacturers and is putting all current machines in the gunge tank and only releasing Noel's House Party on £70 jackpot?
Welcome to crinkley bottom!!
Or is it that bellfruit are replacing all the prize reel bands with pictures of Boobies?
Or that security is now banned from spoons, thus making tricks go widespread even more quickly?
Or that Norwich is the target of terrorists?
Or that Kent is no longer covered 24/7 100% of the time?
Or that George Pot Jack is selling his £500 empty to Trayflop for £300?
Or that Luis Suarez has admitted that he is nothing but a total cunt.
Or that Glendales training school has been forced to close!!
Or that fruitpotty will be online next week?
Or that Kesh has eaten all the punnets of strawberrys in the world and there are none left to put on the reel bands?
Or that Darren Nicholls has been spotted in Newcastle?
Or that Rob got his first ever non shy board on Astras latest release?
Or that the BFK has finally stopped cracking one off over Tanya from eastenders?
Or that Matt Vinyl actually lost on one of the many non playables out there?
Or that..... Oh fuck I've gotta go to darts.
Laters.
