Places with arcades with £5 machines usually spawn many addicted kids in their teenage years. Some of these will continue playing at a slightly higher level and then progress onto the casual player level. Then some of these will inevitably become players who will begin to make a living of sorts.

I grew up in a pub, i always had the bug for it, done my babysitting/glass collecting/bottling up money more times than i care to mention, learnt a few bits off my mate who's dad ran a neighbouring pub, he said he had a bloke coming in his boozer who knew what he was doing (Martal) and that was that, over 13 years ago now :)

Stumbled across the video pontoon scam in 1987 when I was a fledgling. Best thing that ever happened to me.

Yeah mine was £7 too, back in mid 90s.

Machine-wise, I was a late starter, aged 23. I saw the tail end of £15 jp, last 3 months of 2001, didn't really get on those machines. When £25 jp was rolled out, I did much better, although I was only ever a casual. At best, I'll know certain features and have a sense of judgement too if I know the machine well. Otherwise, I just play for luck. Sometimes get stung by machines that have previously been 'done'. Although £25 was my era, I can name a few £35ers that I like, but £70 has gone right over my head. Generally I enjoy playing the £5ers at fairgrounds.
