So close, so far

On a bit of a mess around today, as the day neared its end, I was taking on more and more dubious choices. My luck was in or so it seemed.
Put it this way, I made on a Big Reds that cost £59 for first phones. So I drove to the services and played something even more dubious. It was a £15 raise. Not a phat day over all, morning bits were chipped or done.
Anyway this chap in the services put a £10 note in a Rainbow Riches. Pots were about £115, £195 and £414 iirc (King Rob??!?!). He had two yeah yeahs for his ten, but nowt else.
Anyway I started changing up my float into their new fangled coins to notes machine. This chap asks me about the machine and says he has £300 in his car and he may as well change it up. He leaves Riches, no credit or anything. I play the £5 RtR next door for a giggle and then decide to have £1 in a £500 machine.
The bloke is now back and changing his coins out. He's talking a bit about the machine. Anyway I thought it'd be rude to go on the machine he was playing, all be it no credit. So a quick £1 in the POG next to it, no win, so that was that. As I'm leaving he shows in a £20 note whilst the machine is counting up. First press
YEAH YEAH YEAH
Gold pot.
If I had put £1 in, would I have got that I wonder?
Shows that being nice doesn't always get the cash. Oh well. That's luck for you. Just as well I called it a night as I think my luck was changing. Drove home without any accidents, but did go through a red (just) light, don't think there were cameras.
