It's best to read the Blonde one as thats the full story if you have the time but heres the short of it.

1) Neil Blatchly a.k.a Blatch is a popular and well known UK Poker Player and very popular on the Blonde forum and is known as a high limit sports trader on Betfair

2) He somehow manages to amass a trading bankroll of £60-70,000 from over 40 investors, 3 of which are high roller UK Poker Players and invest 10k each. He has everyones implicit trust.

3) He does well from August to January and is upto £85,000.

4) He keeps on doing well for the rest of the seasom making small profits and some small losses start creeping in but the investors are still delighted, hey its better than money in the bank.

5) He says he will keep this going into the World Cup if people wish but some people object and request their shares. He delays these people several times so suspicions at last start to arise.

6) A poster calls Arbboy registers on the Blonde forum and wonders why everyone trusts this guy so much and launches an attack on him calling him out to prove all his wins and account balance by posting screenshots etc.

7) Blatch comes out and claims he lost the full bankroll on the Liverpool v Stoke game in January by falling asleep pre match. All the trades hes made since then are make believe. He claims the reason for continuing to lie for months and months is because he was trying to make the money back so no one would know about it. But the worst bit is that in April he made a staking thread for staking for the World Series of Poker and managed to get £14,000 from various people. It is assumed he used this money to try and win back the £80,000..

8)In April/May he took his family ona trip of a lifetime to Florida and Miami where they stayed in a 5* hotel and he kept posting on his facebook about how brilliant and posh his trip was.

9) Now everyone knows the money is long gone and its come out that he didnt lose it on Liverpool v Stoke at all, he lost it being a degenerate gambler, betting on roullette and horse racing and the likes.

10) He claims he is moving back in with his parents (hes 35) and selling his fiesta and getting a job and plans to pay everyone back eventually.

11) People are devastated. They want to get the police involved, some have lost their savings, some cant go on holiday this summer because of it.

Wow, i'm impressed that this has made it all the way on to here.

I'm a regular poster on blonde, being a recreational poker player myself. Thankfully I had nothing invested. I've had staking from blatch myself and he always came across as a great guy - guess that's how he managed to pull this one off. Massive shock to everyone on there.

I love it how they use the term 'trade' and 'market' to fool themselves into thinking it's not gambling, i don't feel sorry for the people who lost the money, they gambled, he gambled, end of.

Roulette brings out the spunker in everyone.

Reading the thread and seeing it all unfurl is quite amazing to be hoenst. I don't see how everyone can round on him and call him all sorts - they're all gamblers and this sort of thing can and will happen. It's just on a larger scale to the sort of shit that fruit players deal with from time to time, like lending people money and not getting it back, selling shit tricks for 2 grand or doing their mates' routes behind their backs.

I've played poker with Blatchley a couple of times (to be fair a lot of people have) and I found him to be a bit of cunt to be honest, a bit arrogant.

Any poker player that rushes to spin a grand off during a chip-up has a big problem. The tables fuck your game right up.

Trading £100k on a football match, i'm amazed he could actually fall asleep the night before, i know i wouldn't be able to!

lol at no point did he fall asleep hew conned friends out of money and made up results saying he was making major money when he wasnt even betting on some games.

The big shock to me is that anyone is shocked.

The gullability and greed of his investors are to be mentioned too as far as I'm concerned. I'd never trust someone like this with my money.

There was/is a guy who claimed to be making silly amounts of money trading on football results And roulette (0 & 33) over the last three years. He would even show you the pictures of his winning slips on his mobile phone.

The next thing we knew was that he had left his business (that transpired wasn't actually his!), and legged it owing thousands on credit cards and various people.

A couple of members on this forum will know him.

Quite. What more can someone expect when they give someone a sizeable chunk of cash to invest, but do not require any checks on their activities ? Having read the thread, it is staggering how long people took to smell a rat.

At least you would have someone else from the group audit the betfair account on a regular basis.

Trust should only be given when there is no option but to trust the other person. If you don't have to trust someone in a given situation, why do it and expose yourself to risk ?

Hands up who fell for the pyramid/hearts scam a few years back? One of my dads mates put me and a few mates right, telling us that this con did the rounds back in the 70's, and not to get involved, it's ok if you were at the top of the pyramid or the tier below, but there will never be an endless supply of people so someone will lose out, I know people who lost 3 grand, if something sounds to good to true it usually is (real hustle)

That's a great thread with everything laid bare. The 29th of September trading is where it all started to go wrong by the looks of it, and then at Xmas he dumps over 20k on a Chelsea game, and then over 7k on Spurs.

Horrible but fascinating to read. Fair play to the guy who has put it together.

There was another part to this too that i'm not sure was mentioned in the summary.

About a month ago he put a staking thread up for a trip to Las Vegas. I can't remember the exact amount but I think he secured something in the region of $7000 to play various poker events.

He had absolutely no intention of playing these games. He was just using his good reputation to secure the money. At this point it becomes theft/fraud/whateveryouwanttocallit.
