called a "midas" system.. look behind the machine for an extra wire coming out and going under the carpet or up the wall... it looks like a modem cable

But thats the funniest part of it, keying isnt an offence so once they have held you for a while they have no choice but to release you without charge, thus wasting their own time and yours too.

Midas doesn't really exist anymore and when it did it didn't alarm on refill any way, only when a door was opened or machine turned off during opening hours.
They have an upgrade that is wi-fi now, can't mind the name.

this old chestnut again lol
to key or not to key , that is the question :P
i haven't carried one for years , (not even to try putting ******* * back on ) not interested .
of course ive made some bad "red" judgement calls , but ive had my fair share of top results which other players would have walked away from having known what was in the hopper.
ive always believed and stuck by ,,,,,,, play the program , not the balance .
each to their own .
the whole grey area going equipped thing is a moot point .
and martal (a few years back) had his case thrown out of course , when an industry insider friend vouched that there was no financial gain to be had from carrying one .
if i only had a few quid in the bank ,,,,, then maybe i would have carried one ,
but why give the police a reason to freeze your assets pending a potentially long but (agreed ultimately pointless ) investigation ?

I only find my key useful for monitoring hopper levels in railway stations (as they usually don't have noteys), and only then if you can track down a half decent machine.
The CCP on platform 13/14 at Clapham Junction was often good for a twice-daily hit and having a key helped. In all other locations the key is pretty much redundant.

Same, rarely use mine except in places with no notey or where i know refill days. Ie walk in....key, £70 off 2 hours after refill. DONE, move on...

It is illegal to use one under the Fraud Act 2002. Whether a case would be made against you for a conviction is another matter.

I take it that you are going by these big scary A4 signs that are dotted all over then.....
the bottom bit of writing reads like this, i think (my drunk/hung over new years day morning photography to blame there)....
'Any persons found in possesion or using refill keys on these premises will be requested to leave and the police will be informed.'
Police will be informed will they, informed of what? someone put a key in a fruit machine which doesn't effect the gameplay and doesnt manipulate the machine in any way, so if looking at the hopper level and being able to change the volume of a machine is illegal then i guess we are all criminals! lol
I have looked at the revised version of the fraud act 2006, which obviously isnt the 2002 version that you speak of, but as its newer and revised then it will be the one that is to be adhered to because its dated more recent, so, i cannot see anything in there that would make keys illegal, i have put a link to the revised law below...
fraud act 2006 (revised)
The only line that could hint towards it being offence is this bit..
The defendant must have been dishonest, and have intended to make a gain or to cause a loss to another.
so yeah, i suppose a fruit player
could make a gain with a key, but its in no way a guaranteed way to win, hit it on refill day and a key aint gonna help you one little bit, and as for causing a loss to another, surely we are all guilty of that anyway just by winning on a machine, key or no key, if we have a 140 top out of something then surely we are causing a loss to the next person who plays it, they aint gonna win after the machine has paid that out are they??
That line i quoted above is taken out of context if just that bit is read anyway, as its a part of the sentence, it goes on to say this....
In addition, the defendant must carry out one of these acts:
Making a false or misleading representation.
Failing to disclose to another person information which he is under a legal duty to disclose.
Abusing a position of trust.
So yeah its basically bollocks.

^^^ Agreed.
Someone once said "it doesn't give you an advantage over the machine, only over other players" - like a betting tip. I wonder how this would stand up.
I wonder if these wireless things could be hacked, you could find out a hopper balance from outside the pub!!
