Ah yes! Lovely Aladdins Cave and Masterspy! Fantastic PCP 2p goodness.

The random stop question mark would go on the last letter directly after the penultimate one. So on Aladdins Cave you would press straight after the 'S' lit and you would be in, seeing as 'CAVE' was all one lamp.

These were the first games I played on and I can't remember a more absorbing game. Another trick would be to stop Target Practice on the bars, and see if they held on the next game for an easy jackpot.

All of these PCP machines were first class. Top Secret, Treasure Trove and Bars of Gold were the same. Only stuff like Money Trapper, Test Pilot or Cash Cards were close in terms of playability. When you look at what we have got to play now, it really makes you appreciate being around during the Golden Era of fruit machines.

Snap Happy was another game that had an easy trail entry. Two quick Y's in succession, and then another shortly after. Then a piss-easy 50p from the Pair Match feature.
Yes viva the old days...

Am I right in saying that if you had the ? on the grape on the middle reel and a 2 on reel 1 or 3 the skillstop would slip? I'm sure this was the case, but maybe not.

On blue streak sometimes the ? would blatantly slip, you'd hit it off the A and it would end up on the E of streak.

[quote="mouse75"]Appreciate not really a fruit machine, But best - and definitely most profitable skill ever was mastering a "cash crane" - before all the arcades cheated and made it an impossible fit or broke the stabiliser.
I had two in my local arcade - and it never took more than 4 or 5 goes for a nice crisp £20 note.
In the height of the season they would happily fill it twice a day - 5 £20 notes in each machine, with only me and my mate able to take them.
This lasted for at least 8 weeks before they wised up and barred us from the machines.
That was a good Summer.

My mate would happily drive to Blackpool every night just to take three £20's out of the one in Coral Island]

I remember those cranes, they used to get absolutely rinsed everywhere, some seaside arcades had 2 or 3 of them. In an attempt to make it harder some arcades limited the time you had to line it up, or would sandwich the machine between 2 others so that you were unable to see from the side whether you were in the right place or not.
Other arcades resorted to other methods, such as moving platforms or taking the magnetic strip off the box so it was impossible to win it, or tilting the boxes.

They used to have one of these in a local bowling alley. £5 notes would be nearest the crane start, ie front left and the £20s where close to the back right.
As it was a new machine and I was doing well, I thought I'd give it a few quid, thinking it'd obviously have some Jiggery pokery (Mazooma) to protect itself.
First go and I thought I'd go for a £5 note near the front, when I clocked that some loon had put a £20 note near the front. So I went for that and I think I got it within about £3. It lifted it up to near the payout chute and wouldn't drop.
I think with this one, when you win, you have to call attendent to open it up and remove prize from crane, presumably to stop people walking off with the canister containing the note.
I didn't pursue it as it took the attendent fifteen minutes to show up and I guessed that I had just been lucky, not supremely skillful.

The cranes where I lived had a sign on saying please return the box to the cash desk. Well nobody bothered, they just left the emply box on the machine, where they would invariably end up knocked onto the floor and broken. Of course eventually the arcades used photocopied notes so that you'd have to go to the cash desk to swap the copy for a real note, thus ensuring the boxes were returned. The problem was that nobody wanted to expose themselves to the risk of being banned by repeatedly going upto the desk, so you'd end up having to throw some kid a pound or two to redeem it for you.

i spose it was missable ..........

if you was a mollusc

those little yellow cash cranes ( cash arenas?) were everywhere when they first came out ,there were loads of players doin' 'em over ,as already said, god only knows ours got rinsed until it was blocked from both sides and the ring round they magnet was expanded by loosening a little grub screw.this caused the box to be almost unwinable unless it got wedged in with a perfect shot like what JG must have done lol.
cromptons brought out a kit for this that made the boxes go from side to side , ruined it for players the b@st@rds!

i've mentioned this before a while ago ,there's a machine called barbers cut where cash is hung on strings ,you have to move a snip in the same way you would on a crane to cut the strings to release the prizes.
although this machine is processed and will add a minute ammount of overun to your game if it's not ready ,you can get the prize swinging quite easily with a near miss by the snip arm. this has the effect of nullifying the processors attempts to thwart you,as it only knows where a stationary prize is, and you now only need a half decent bit of hand eye co-ordination to win.don't say i never give you nothing

As mentioned - Jape's Big Bucks stop n step was good...the random stop bonus off the question mark on the reels used to skip stop n step - I assume this was the equivalent to not numbering i.e. not JP ready ?

Cash Counter (Barcrest?) had a good cash climb feature where you had to hit a fully lit word to advance - it got stupidly fast and the sfx went mental on fast speed.

Bfm's double chance was great on skill cash for obtaining those winning streak symbols.

Find the Lady was also a good skiller, the stand alone machine with a cash trail and the reflective cards down the bottom. Made Knight Time on Screen Play look like a walk in the park.

In Orbit on that space themed one was also a challenge, I'm never as good at skills which involve all 3 reels moving at once than other types of skill.

Yes if it went to pick a win it was burnt, but big bucks showed 8s and 3s.

Cash Counters were great fun, its a tragedy such games aren't about anymore, for nostalgia value.

I played a Caesars a few weeks back, and Roman Reels seemed like a piece of piss compared to recent stuff.

What was the name of those globals? There were on £25 and there were a few clones. All you needed was a win and then plug it and it would dump. Never done one though.
