Not always the moment they start, but definatly after a few years, I'd say a lot of pro players start to develop the shared personality characteristics of their group (being two faced, only caring about money,etc.), aswell as the other general characteristics I've mentioned in previous posts.

Of course you are right JG, "normal" obviously can't be defined and was the wrong choice of word. I have never met anyone who I'd say is actually "normal".

it is true darkhorse m8 ,,,,,, there are many many facets to someone's personality ,,,,,,, and money can definitely tarnish some aspects of a friends behaviour ,,,,,,,, i'll concede you that.

Dark Horse: Yes I suppose it is very hard to define and I appreciate what you are saying about pro machine players. I wouldn't class myself as normal. I am told it is quite normal for human beings to feel they are not normal. Make of that what you will. I like to think that in this game and life itself or the game of life, or even the board game, 'The Game of Life' that the humble diplomats will be more succesful than the overtly aggressive egos.

I don't know about any off you guys but I don't like feeling like I owe anything?

You get me a pint ill be at the bar for next 1. You stand up for me in trouble I would do same. You pick me at silly o'clock coz am pissed I return the favour.. That's just the way I am and think if some one does something for me ill do it for them. Within reason obviously.

I have this lad pretty low life near enough an alki works part time minimum wage. me and my dad play for local pool team with him. this lad has been helping dad around allotment for months and my dad said why dont ya take him out for a pint when playing. I agreed I liked the guy. He was out quite regular with me and he was on phone this time his pay hadn't gone in. I offered here mate there's a score if ya need it till ya get paid he agreed and said ill give you it back. Last machine and I 4got he had 40 coins on him of mine. I didn't realise till next day I rang him he left them in coat at work etc.... That's 60 quid and been bowt 6 month now..I have mentioned it few times but not for 8 week are so now a bit sick..

yeah i dont lend money out anymore, not even to family. If they are desperate which they never are bcos they work..id rather give them the money or buy them shopping. grant makes a good point, i will never see someone go hungry though.

Yes indeed, I've become wise to this sort of tactic over the years, and now I am prepared for it. You can see it coming a mile off - they start asking after your family, paying the odd compliment and so on, and then BANG!

The funny thing is that when they ask you they are already anticipating a knock-back, so it becomes -

'Any chance you could lend us a ton, I'll give it back to you Sunday at the latest, it's just that my so-and-so cheque hasn't come through yet, aw go on mate you know I'm good for it, I paid you back last time, you'd really be helping me out, please mate you know I wouldn't be asking if I wasn't desperate, aw fucking hell mate it's only a ton.'

I very rarely lend money out these days, not necessarily because people haven't paid it back, but because I can't be bothered with the hassle of worrying about chasing after it. I can count on the fingers of one hand the people who I would lend money to, and even then I'd have to be in a good mood.

I went out for a punt at the end of the summer with a mate and we didn't really make a lot. On the 15 minute journey back he didn't really say much, and then 5 minutes after I had dropped him off a text came through asking to borrow £200. He must have started typing it out as soon as he got through his front door. Why not grow a set and ask me face-to-face? I had to laugh.

Not going to say how much I've made from fruits, it could have been a lot more if I had stayed full-time but I'm happy with what I have got. My future it sorted that's for sure, and that's what my main goal was.

I don't mind lending anyone anything with in reason, just do me the basic courtesy of paying it back, i should'nt need to even ask, we've all been skint at some time, i feel uncomfortable owing people money and can't wait to pay it back, thats just me, i've wrote a few borrows off over the years, and i'm looking forward to one person asking again, not a chance!!!

not that ive ever borrowed ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, but if i did i would feel exactly like scott ,,,,,, uncomfortable ,,,,,,,,,,,, it would play on my mind ,,,, and i would have to make it my first priority to pay it back .

i would gladly lend scott , martin , ady money ,,,,,wouldn't even need a reason why they want it,,,,,,,,,,,, because these people are decent above board people ,,,,,,,,,,,

slotters from other parts of the country are surprised by our bond ,,,,,,,,,,, thinking that we are unique in that we work together , arn't dog eat dog like other cities etc .

its not really that we're unique ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, of course we have our fair share of lowlife backstabers too ,,,,, its just we dont associate with em attall once bitten once,,,,,,,,,,,

we've had 1 player send us to machines that he knew full well was already gone ,,,,,, and 1 that was a notorious pot dipper . for example

i fully agree with darkhorse about money changing people .

but not with those true above board friends that you know inside out.

Thats the best, when they've owed you money for weeks/months and you see them on the piss and smoking, and they don't even offer it back, i know a few piss takers.

yeah they pissed me off, when u see them out drinking and eating. and they still dont offer if back. ive literally had to snatch money out of another players hand as he tried to put it into a fobt, not naming names
