It's just the image you want to give out of yourself, you wouldn't go around in real life not giving a toss about what you said or what you did or how you come across, and it shouldn't be the same here if you want anyone to take notice of you.

ps. everyone should just use firefox, built in spellchecker. :D .

Are there any useful links to websites that could help improve a person's grammar, punctuation and spelling?

Actually, I'll quickly check Google.

Yes I've just typed in 'improving grammar' and we've got a host of possibilities.

First is BBC Skillswise which is aimed at adults and will help with written skills amongst other things. There are many other resources.

It's quite possible to increase literacy 'skillz' without getting up off your computer chair. If you've got basic reading and writing skill, then I'm sure there is something on The Interweb that will be useful.

It's very true what has been said. I will judge a posting by the style of its prose. I may not be as harsh as some, but I will judge it, because I'm human and we automatically form opinions on what we see.

I try to be as unbiased as possible. There are a few 'txt' writers who are quite intelligent in some ways. There is one chappie down my local arcade who dresses like a chav, acts like a chav but has good aptitude for working out machines. Bad literacy doesn't necessarily mean a person is less intelligent but it sure as hell conveys that image to people who write properly.

If someone comes on here and writes 'av u gt umpty 4 dond?' or someone comes on here and writes 'I am enquiring as to the details off a possible software manipulation on the series of Deal or no Deal s34 AWPs. Would anyone be so kind as to fill this gap in my knowledge?' then they will both illicit the same silent response from me.
However, I will prejudge that the second poster is more 'intelligent' than the first poster. I may be wrong, but hey, there isn't time to play Devil's Advocate on every little prejudice that I feel. It's just about that effort as PPete says, it's not about every whistle, dot and bell in exactly the correct place. A typo is a typl.

Usually I just live and let lie when an abundance of text diretribe runs across the screen. We have active pro-grammar units in operation on here already, so there is no need for secondary interception. H2 and others are hot on literacy and will gun down any fools who txt spk innit?

It doesn't annoy me, but sometimes I worry for them that'd they'd write to everybody like they type on The Internet.

The one thing that does annoy me.

Crimbo.

I fucking (swearing doesn't annoy me) hate this bastardisation with a passion. Not for religious reasons, but just because it sounds completely retarded. Merry Christmas, have a good Christmas. Ho! ho! Ho! Christmas is here. Fine.

Have a good crimbo mate.

Get real. That's about as Christmassy as sunbathing. It's naff, it's crass, it's common, it's retarded. Stop saying it. I will be enforcing this on all AWP releated forums this Christmas, particularly that one where they all love Gary ;) and I have spotted copious usage of the bastardisation 'Crimbo' on previous seasons by various cliques. Let the war begin!

Yippeeee!! I'm not the only miserable grinch on here who hates, no, despises Christmas. I don't care about what it stands for, I don't give a crap about it beng over commercailised (even though selection boxes in September takes the rip).

No, what I despise about Christmas is that for 364 days of the year I get by tolerating, grunting at people and for one shitty day I'm supposed to like everyone, shake peoples hands and wish people Merry Christmas. Get to f*ck! I'll treat people the same as ever whether its with the respect they deserve or the contempt they've brought upon themselves.

I don't like New Year either, but you probably guessed that, didn't you?

Amazingly though, I'm one of the soundest people you could ever meet!!

You sound it.

perhaps you should try being nicer to people the other 364 days, rather than adjusting your attitiude for Christmas.

Thats the point Pete, why should I adjust my attitude/personality for one day of the year to appease everyone else?

I have a motto in life - ' Treat people how you like to be treated yourself.' It gets me by. I'll never be top of peoples Christmas card lists but on the flipside I'm not unpopular and I don't have any enemies.

As long as my daughter is happy on Christmas morning, who gives a $hit about me and my different outlook on life! :D

and my point was that life's better when, rather than tolerating and grunting at people all year round, you are nicer or more christmasy) to people all year.

Fair comment, but without trying to justify myself I am polite, well-mannered, respectful and curtious. I don't like Christmas, thats all. :|
