I know two people who use drivers, one who is banned and one who doesn't have a licence. They both pay them 70 quid a day. Talk of paying people 3 quid an hour is fuckin daft, nobody would work for that, even those on the dole.

We had to use a driver last year, i asked him what he'd be happy with, we agreed on £30 + diesel a day for him, it was only for around 6 hours a day, we smashed it a few times, but also one day we made £82, me and my mate had £26 each, so the driver got more than us lol

If your supplying the car then £30 is quite fair to just sit on their arse and drive, but if it's their car £30 isn't worth the risk of wear and tear repairs. Loss of vehicle value due to higher mileage use. I suppose some people would be desperate enough.

Minimum wage is £6.08 for over 20's Scott.

He was using a works van, it was only for a week or so. He had no work and we needed someone to drive.

So some of you are paying people 35000 to sit on their arse in a car all day plus they are claiming welfare payments? More than 90% of the uk earn less than that

35k a year pre tax is about the same income that a single parent with 2 kids doing a nmw job for 24 hours a week.

You need to be comparing what a selfemployed person earns so for 35k a year job the day rate would be /100 = £350 a day or /1000 = £35 a hour, thats a common way selfemployed rates are caluculated.

If running your own motor and fuel all these expenses can be offset, paying £100 a day or £10 a hour would only be consided the equal to a £10k a year position.

If you had the choice of taking a NMW wage role for 40 hour week the self employed equal would be...£12,646.40 a year, selfemployed rates are therefore £12.65 a hour, £126.50 a day. Plus use the hmrc milage rate of 40p a mile for the first 10k miles 25p a mile thereafter.

Any one working for less than these nmw rates are pretty stupid or claiming the full list of state support keeping all other income as cash/non tracable or actually earning much much more not doing somthing lawful.

Some very odd calculations there, you only work 100 days in the year with all that! Which part time job would pay that much for a 2-3 day week!

You can't compare PAYE employed jobs with being self employed, it just does not work like that. They are not odd calculations at all, /100 for day rate and /1000 for hourly is a standard calculation for contract workers, you will have periods with out work, no rights that employees get and so on. If your self employed you can charge what you like, the market will determine whether you get any work or not.

Quite possible to be a contractor and get 6 months work then have nothing for 6 months.

Using those calculations it take into account the holiday pay, NI contributions, notice periods, pension contributions and all the other bits you get as a employee.
