Good ethics Grant.
It is very difficult for fruit players to integrate into society, their existence simply doesn't involve personal and social devlopment that people with careers and long term jobs are exposed to. Most fruit players are considered asocial and this is because most people go through various stages and develop their social skills and demeanour by experiences involving university, training, short and long term employment, careers, interviews and education. Because many of these aspects have been corrupted, coupled with the fact there is long term preoccupation with gambling, development is stifled resulting in a mindstate that tends to be awkward and withdrawn. Some of the more sucessful fruit players manage to mask these traits as their cash or material possessions let them create an illusiuon of confidence. However take these away or present them to a situation that they may not be comfortable with and the mask cracks easily leaving what sometimes borders on a shivering wreck.
How does Sir Linesmen know so much about fruit players you may ask. Well I don't really, but a good friend conducted a study titled 'gambler personalities' as part of his dissertation for his degree. The study found that all forms of gambling result in the same chemical equations in your brain, and where there is a preoccupation, the study found this heavily leans towards various levels of asocialness. It is a fascinating study which was actually commissioned by a well known journal, the outcomes of the study revealed gamblers are much more prone to many conditions than the average person. An example of this is the highs and lows a gambler experiences can result in Jekyll and hyde syndrome along with many other personality discorders. The reasoning behind it is basically when a gambler wins they experience a high and often become very sociable, on the other hand when they lose they become very withdrawn. Because there is rarely any middle ground, over time the brain continuously programs these mindstates and they actually enhance and evolve. I don't really have time to go into exact detail as it takes a lot of explaining but it is certainly very interesting. Im not suggesting many fruit players are showing the effects of extreme disorders, but I'd say the majority do show symptoms of being asocial.
When I read the study I decided to change my thinking and proceeded to look at volunteer work, helping people and just generally change my outlook making sure I have significant time away from gambling. That is why I rarely do any other form of gambling even though I do enjoy having a punt on the football, it is seriously something to think about though.
Regards, Sir Linesman
