i love to give the small tactical loan to people ,,,,,,,,,,, nowt big ,,,,,,,,,,,, owt up to 20quid

it separates the true friends from the scroungers

if they make an effort to pay you back ,,,,,,, without you having to ask for it ,,,,,,,,, true friend

then there's the lowlifes that make you feel guilty about asking for your own money back.

the small tactical loan works , because ,,,,,,,

this way when they dont pay you back ,,,,,,,,,,, next time they ask ,,,,,,,,,, you are armed with the ammo of ''sorry m8 , cant do it , you never paid me back last time'' ,,,,,,,,,,,

you dont sound a cunt ,,,,,,,, and 20quid is a small price to pay to find out who the scroungers in your life are ,,,,,,,,, then you know to keep em at arms length

Not sure thats 100% true Lee. I used to also go by that theory but now I think lending people small amounts means they usually write the debt off in their head straight away cos it's so small. Nowadays I'd rather lend ppl a grand+... at least they know it's importantrto pay you it back and I don't feel bad if I have to enforce the debt.

Better still, don't ever lend a coin to anyone with a gambling/alcohol/drugs problem. That means at least 90% of players.

Don't be to willing to help out those who make money yet are always skint. They'll see your kindness and mistake it for weakness. They'll always tell you hardluck stories in the hope you'll help them out, when all you're doing is wasting your own time and money. I saw a player from Brighton with a grand in his pocket go skint in the bookies then ring another player up with a false shaky voice saying he has nowhere to live and hadn't eaten etc, begging for a loan or a day on the fruits.
Opened my eyes a bit.
That is well out of order. One player I used to speak to would always tell me his kid would go hungry if I didn't constantly bail him out, which he knew would upset me. Much as his kid was like nephew to me, I finally realised he wasn't my responsibilty and it wasn't my fault his dad smokes crack. Gotta be "tough love" to help some people, sadly.

Don't get me wrong there very few ppl I'd lend that kind of money to mate. Only ever 2 players I ever have or would.

Even within my circle of real friends I'd say I rate peoples integrity in different ways.

I.E:- I've got some very rich friends who I wouldn't bat an eyelid about spotting a few quid here and there cos I know they pay back instantly. Doesn't mean they are particularly good mates though.

Got some other mates that aren't even good for a score, cos they graft hard for their money and think mine grows on trees. Same people have had my back when I've ran into trouble or personal problems.

Assess each person individually for their qualitys and faults. We are all good and bad in someways, it's not fair to judge peoples characters based on how they act when money is involved. It changes the way the best of us act at times.

I don't have a problem lending reasonable amounts to mates as I know i'll get it back.

There's always the odd £20 that you don't see again, and i'm probably guilty of it too. The sort of thing where you're on a night out and you realise you didn't bring any cash with you and rather than nip to a cash machine your mate spots you it. In these sorts of cases it's quite a small inconsequential amount of money and if both parties happen to forget about it then that's fine.

If i'm lending £100+ though i'm gonna remember! Lent a guy this once cos he said he was skint and not getting paid for a week. Next day I see him sat at a roulette table with about £120. No chance. Went up to him and demanded the money back there and then.

You are right in principal, but the point I was making is that you shouldn't judge people SOLELY on how they act where money is concerned. It's not a "cheap tell", there are many complicated aspects to peoples personalitys. No offence mate but all the people who you speak to play machines, most players have very little to their character, judging them based on how they act with money is only accurate cos they don't care about much else in life. I was talking about NORMAL people.

I had a shouting match on xmas eve with one of my mates over £50 he's owed me since xmas eve last year. He's known to be shocking when it comes to money and can be very selfish with women. Still value his friendship in other ways though. He's talked me down when I was suicidal and went out to fight me with when a load of guys tried to rob my mums house when we were 16. Took a knife for me in the process. I'd say that makes him pretty loyal and that he values my friendship. He just on a different planet when it comes to money.

Amazing how often the guy (girl?) you see down the pub every Friday suddenly disappears for months on end when you've lent them a score.
