I am one of those that has played, less serious now, for 18 years but has always had a job. I think long term , employment with casual playing is ideal. I know players and good luck to them, I have often thought why bother with the 12 to 14 hr days albeit I have a good job, when if you're a player you can do as you please and earn good money.

It may be tougher now but the hardcore disciplinarians will continue to make enough to get by until something good comes along whilst I continue to do my thing , shaving away to make a living.

great thread guys .

first of all , i have to give respect and full admiration to rich , ........... as you all know my favourite word and work ethic that i try to live by is discipline , it's the one true personal skill that must be mastered to achieve longevity in the game. ,,,,,,,, to come on here like rich has and announce his has left him is a very brave admission , and i truly believe him when he says that due to a vastly improved work/social life that despite a lower income he is indeed a much happier person,,,,,,, well done.

myself ,,,,,,,,,,,, ive thought long and hard about the poll question , and have found it too difficult to answer .

but not like ratty in that i need x amount large chunks to live ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, no , my needs are considerably less financially ,,,,,,,, i could sustain a perfectly adequate lifestyle on 5-700 a month. and therefore could tick the poll near the bottom end of the scale , ,,,,,,,,,,,,, but that's where i stumble . ,,,,,,,,,,,, and if im honest ,,,,,,, panic a little and scream inside.

why ,,,,,,,,,,, because having lived to my own devices for so long ,,,,,,,,ive developed a very bad personality trait,,,,,,,,,,, im conditioned , i know i couldn't take any form of authority from anyone ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and the very thought of someone else controlling my life and telling me i have to get up at 6am to be at work for 7am ,,,,,,,, truly truly terrifies me ,,,,,,, i sit and literally cry at the thought ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, pathetic i know .

so even an off the scale offer of say 500 a day ,,,,,,,,,,,, although fantastic (and i would give it a go most definitely , im not stupid) ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, would still be a psychological challenge to put up and shut up with the conforming uncomfortable claustrophobic nature of working to someone elses beck n call.

so i plod on ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, if and or when percentage based gaming leaves us , or it becomes toooo much of a struggle to make a living ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, i will have little choice but to start my own business ,,,,,,,,,,,, which due to no business acumen/nouse whatsoever will most likely fail ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, then with it most likely the added pressure of no income , possible divorce lol etc ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, i'll end up buying a cheap motor-home ,,,,,,,,, living like trailer trash ,,,,,,,,,,,,, parked at the end of yor street ,,,,,,,,, with a sign on the window ''will hit reel skills for food'' lol

lee.

ps . still didn't / couldn't sign the poll

Rich is indeed brave to admit it openly, and that in itself asks a question - why do we have to be brave to admit we've left the game? As far as I'm concerned he's done a good thing, and I applaud him, fruits weren't working out, move on. We will all have to do it at some point and its a good sign of character if you admit to it.

Then I got to agree with Dan - fucking sick of the agro, getting stressed, had a sore stomach for over a week, probably an ulcer. Its just the constant grate of little comments, stares and suspicions. Not that any individual occurance would put me off, as I'm doing nothing wrong, and its mostly borne out of jealousy. But its the build up. However, I'm stubborn, and when I stop I hate the fact that all the pricks who whisper will think "He's probably in jail now". But going back and keeping on winning... Thats a big finger up to their collective ignorance and is certainly fuelling my motivation just now(to an extent).

Then I have to agree with Lee, wholeheartedly and in every single point he makes - moving on it a very very very scary idea, but I need to do it. Thankfully my wifes got a good career and could eaily support us financially so I'm more in Lee's boat than Dans boat.

One final point - this is for the educated sensible players - bloody annoying when you think what we could have acheived if we'd taken the proper career route isn't it??? Look at your peers from uni, easy high end salary, huge house with huge mortgage and a flash car - none of which they own, not even close, but that wouldn't be a problem knowing you've got job security. Still dont think I'd change the past tho, the early years were too much fun, and life begins at 30 :)

I'd take £100 a day after tax(30k a year), obviously a pay and freedom cut, but a huge personal, moral and life boost. But you don't walk into £30k a year job with a blank CV :(

p.s. I could have swore silent g said he had a job on here not so long ago...

Yes Ross that is a very interesting point, many players on here or especially not on here would deride someone for quitting to get a bar job. I even had self doubts myself to put a thread up honestly thinking about my feelings towards machines at the moment.

I think this 'industry' is somewhat seeped in bravado and appearing better than your peers. Any weakness is seized upon.

Ross makes a really good point too in that if you stop these morons will think you've gone to prison or similar ridiculous thoughts! I suppose the best way of rationalising things is these people think if they give you aggro you will stop playing or affect your mental state. Gonna have to try my best not to let these idiots win!

the last point about the bravado brigade giving you jip

worse case scenario --------- your working in mcdonalds ---------

a still playing bravado boy walks in ,,,,,,,, spots you , and makes a decisive effort to make sure he gets served by you.............

then he utters the most belittling demoralising words you will ever here,,,,,

''6 chicken mc-nudges please ya sad loser''

harrowing thought indeed.

I know I don't know that many people personally on here, but have spoken alot via text/PM etc.. I keep myself to myself and speak to a selected group of people....

I would like to wish all the best to anyone who leaves the fulltime fruity life and decides to work. Me personally I travel alot, and don't have alot of outgoings so if there is weeks that are shit, i can just rely on savings or money I have..

Me, personally, I'm going no where. Money is still good for me and I hear things new all the time. I wish the best for you rich, even though I don't properly know you. :)

My uncle owns a burger van and they do bring in good money. You say you make 700 quid which is deffo possible but some people don't realise how many customers you need to make 700. The amount of 2 or 3 pounds at a time or 80p's how ever much just a coffee is. When its really busy I wouldn't like to be the one serving. If its you serving mate you are doing really well and organisational skills must be top notch.
