Wow, I've just found myself drawn into reading the majority of that thread. Just because of how harrowing it all is. Would hate to ever be involved in anything like that. :(

Yeah, everyone is like "it might must have been an honest mistake".

I really want to contact some of these people.

About a month ago he put a staking thread up for a trip to Las Vegas. I can't remember the exact amount but I think he secured something in the region of $7000 to play various poker events.

He had absolutely no intention of playing these games. He was just using his good reputation to secure the money. At this point it becomes theft/fraud/whateveryouwanttocallit.
Yeah that's the worst part - he's simply stealing money from people there.

I wonder how much money never even made it into the Betfair acccount, and was simply 'knocked in' at the bookies?

The falling asleep story was never going to wash - if you had 100k on a game of football you'd be so wired you could stay awake for 2 days. And this coming from someone who has most probably stayed awake overnight playing poker on the net dozens of times.

It's a sad story, however -

People moaning that they have had to cancel holidays and so on because of it should not have laid the money out to begin with if they needed it so badly. They were giving Blatch money to gamble - he then gambled and lost. Fair enough a lot of it went on horses and roulette, and some got frittered away elsewhere, but at the end of the day they took a punt and lost, one way or the other. Even trusting the guy was a gamble.
