And to JakeyC just pay the TV licence - it's a tenner a month for christs sake, that's not bad value for money really is it?
The TV licence is regressive tax pure and simple.
When it first started the BBC provided 100% of Television available so it could have been considered a subscription. Today BBC channels represent less than 35% of viewer hours yet the tax is still levied on exactly the same basis as when it started. I wouldn't recommend that anyone break the law but the present TV licensing arrangements are impossible to justify. There is no public service broadcaster anywhere in the world that costs as much as the BBC.
In this day and age, if we wish to watch the BBC, we should have the option to pay it(like SKY TV for example, if you want it, pay for it). I have'nt paid for a TV licence in 9 years. I have no intention to. You do not have to let a stranger into your house. I have now saved over £1000 in TV licence charges. I'd probably get full whack £1000 if I got got, but I won't get caught. Its impossible with the knowlege I know regarding this issue.
Good to know I'm not the only one who feels strongly about it.
With mobile and internet content slowly becoming more used, it will be impossible to police within years if not already.
Hell, the BBC have even launched thier own iPlayer software to let you watch everything for free, albeit a little later - the licence only covers live broadcasts.
you can't file for bankruptcy unless court action has been taken against you, there is something called LILA being introduced, low income low asset, basically if you earn little and have little, you pay a hundred quid and your debts are wiped, obviously more to it than that, but that's the jist.
Well I do own a T.V Licence and believe me I seriously begrudge paying for it.
The best thing someone could do is never buy one, because once you do they have your details and theres no getting away from them.
I always thought the Licence covered production costs and Gary Linekers wages, surely the Licence could now be reduced when you consider the money they now make from DVDs and the selling of programmes to minor satallite channels ( Dave, UK Gold)?
Oh, and that letter you get through the post worded "Don't lose your right to vote" which when filled in is used for Council Tax, TV licence evaders, debt collection agencies.
Do not reply to any of the requests for info as to who lives at the address etc, do not go on the electoral role, its all bad news and just gives them more info.
