I heard a rumour once that a person knew the arcaade manager, and was cleanin out the place.
If this was true, what kind of info did they get or what advancments could be made?
Sounds random, but why should the staff give a fuck.
Obviously keying would be risk free.... but as a newb, dont know much else. Other than perhaps watching which machines had been pumped, perhaps the mcs that had been refilled by service.....

I worked in arcade some time ago and the owner came down with the keys on empty day. We would go around a few machines together and just fill a bucket up with coins, no checking the meters. The owner had three arcades and I had pre arranged for my mate in another shop to ring up on empty day and ask to speak to Jim, the owner and keep him occupied whilst I filled my pockets with pound coins. The owner never ever noticed. I used to phone Jim up when they emptied in the other shop so my mate could do the same. Jim didn't seem to care as long as he left the shop with three or four thousand in coins. The crappy old cabinets were made from chipboard so you could use a knife to pry open the back doors and just churn out coins and leave the tubes nearly empty until the old grannies came in to fill them up. They made it too easy really. You could also use static electricity to reset the machines or if this failed then strimmer wire was most useful with the old style slots.
He never noticed the bulges in your pocket?

As a player, how could you use knowing the manager to your advantage, if they were on the make?
Im just not sure on exactly how they managed to fleece it, or even how it could be done now.

That would be a good start.
So if they had a monitioring system, then a player with a key, thats gotta whack the odds up.
Im not sure if this is right, but sometimes even with the key, its not always accurate, as a service engineer might have refilled the machine... so to work around this, the playee could get tip-offs about this, and then the key would give an accurate hopper reading...
: As for strimming, could be done with a blind eye. Although, like you say, not sure the newer machines would take it.

I believe that there were two different "strimming" methods.
The practice I am talking about meant getting a piece of plastic that you would use for your Flymo and bend it into a certain shape to fool the slots in thinking that a coin was going into the mechanism. The plastic Mars Electronics slots which beacme more popular in about 1983 stopped this practice AFAIK.

Another old trick was to wrap a 10p piece with some surgical tape or aluminium foil and the less sensitive slots believed it was a 50p giving either change or 50p worth of credits. This pre-dated the pound coin.
