Nearest we got to that was Psycho Cash Beast 2. Sceptre still have a few of these flying around in the North West and they are pretty easy to read.
These kind of games worked very well on £15 and £25 jackpots but they would be fucking dreadful on £70, no matter how creative you are with the design. They'll block at £10 or £20 for an age because you can drive a bus through the gap between the jackpot and the next win down. You'd have 2 approaches -

a) Appeal to the clever player and allow for an occasional early nick on a jackpot, which puts the machine behind and fucks normal punters off (and in turn pub landlords and so on), or

b) Make sure the game definitely has the money before it gives it away, resulting in a boring, predictable and flat-as-a-witches-tit game with progressive blocks, that takes ages to force out for no profit. Nothing here for 'players' and not really a great deal there for normal punters as the jackpot is not attainable from loose change unless a flash comes along from a saved pot.

The jackpot value is too high and makes for a shit game that is not enjoyable to play, nor does it make the normal punter feel that they have a chance of winning. Lapsed players will not be tempted back for this kind of shit.

What really fucked it was going from £35 to £70. £50 would have been a nice amount as a jp, with a repeat you had a nice ton in your pocket. £70 was too big a leap, and the playability was sacrificed. It's a lovely idea recreating all the profitable games from yesteryear, but Mystery Plum is quite right when he says it wouldn't work. Plus its a bit fanciful, the industry isn't there to cater for the needs of the pro player.

[quote="jeffvickers"] Its a shame a company like Empire Games cannot pull their fingers out of their arse and bring out something decent, though I expect the big firms hold the patents to all the old stuff, so maybe their hands are tied.

Their hands are tied jeff , Novomatic already own Empire Games, they bought them out last year.

Casino machines: £10 stake (i think) £4000 jp
Bookies/high jp arcades £2 stake, £500jp
clubs 20p (30p??) stake £250jp
pubs £1 stake £100 jp..

different type of people play in the different places
addicts dont count

people who gamble for fun, and stick to a budget, the apparent "target market" of the industry.. (we all know they want addicts)

each environment will have people spending money on gambling, within their means or in excess of affordability

theoreticly the £500 jp and the £4000jp shouldnt be manipulated as they are "random" (or whatever)

as long as the £250 clubs machines stay around, the lower jp pub machines will stay in the same format.. untill these change you guys will make money from the machines the way you do

i sat and thought to myself over a pint the other day..

i had a £40 cob on a dond clone.. ..off the 1st board.. £38 profit.. which id stuck back in seeing if anything else would come from it..

10 years ago, id have put £10-£20 in a vivid for 2 jackpots, =£50.... meaning a profit of £30... although this was a proper method, and afterplay was pretty non-existant..

at what point do the value of money change for me, £38 is a very good profit...

5 years ago, red's would happily do £105 every now and again.. but you would normally only expect one repeat for £70,.. and most of us would (happily) attempt this with up to about £50.. meaning a profit of £20-£55...

the feeling of getting more than one jackpot could possibly be something that fades out in the next jp-upgrade.. if they bring out games that you can hit a skill or a shortcut to a jp that no-one else finds out.. then you will make the same profit margins...

someone mentioned that they dont think emptys will be around?? this type of comment shows how spoilt you are: if you have the chance to use empties all the time, but not play any games with proper judgement and skill, then you will find it harder later on.... its easyer to put XX amount of money into a machine knowing once you trigger something specific you will be able to get all of the coins out... but in the future, if you have to rely on hitting the next version of GUAC, but lack the skill to hit it or the experience to tell how long the machine will hold off of the feature required, then the profits will slip away..

im pretty sure that somewhere i read that there are 300,000 fruit machines in the country.. and the license will be somewhere near a grand a year? so thats £300,000,000 a year in licence fees... if these figures are anywhere near the mark, i doubt fruit machines will be going anywhere for a while.

in one years time on valentines day 2013 i'll drag this thread back up if nobody else starts another 'end is nigh' thread.

i don't dispute that there'll be changes though but the end isn't even on the horizon.

Did you forget? lol

I thought Luis Suarez was a cunt a year ago.

I've changed my opinion now.

He's an even bigger cunt.

I'm EXTREMELY CONFUSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why was Mr McStreak posting as a guest and why Mystery Plum too? Oscar's comment about what seems to be himself...?! What?!?!?!?!

What a load of panic merchants... wasn't Jackpot King 100% digital? Wasn't all this ipub, recent stuff where they took the emptyable games off all digital? Heck, I remember emptying a few Random Spinners and High Rollers that were digital! What is it that makes you all fear these digital beasts so much? Think they can't be cracked or contain faults? So they're gonna get updated on the spot, big deal. Even better, you won't get so much sharking because no one will believe you can tamper with or outsmart one of these things so you'll be left to your own devices...heheheeheheee.....

I'm more interested in the resurrection of McStreak...
