I thought a degree of player manipulation and "secret"methods were deliberatly included by the manus to make the games more interesting and as part of the psychology to make players in the know think they have an edge over the uninformed punter. And progressive and compensated payouts supposedly make the games more profitable. So why would They want to change that even if it was all digital?
If you ran/owned a pub, who would you want playing the machines.
Current scenario
Player A comes in, once a week buys a drink, wins £100 out of the machine and disappears leaving the machine dead for the "regulars".
Player B, casual. Has £50 to spend comes in once a week. Buys three beers for a tenner and does the rest in the machine player A has just rinsed.
£10 in the till.
Future scenario.
No player A as now machines "random".
Player B buys three pints, plays the machine with the other £40 and every other week wins £70. Now once a fortnight can afford an extra night out and another three pints, so another £10 in the till.
Other advantages, fewer refills, no reel alarms, remote diagnostics and updates/patches/rechips. No humping machines arounds resulting in savings in fleet, engineer and fuel costs. No brainer really.
