they got hit badly on cops and robbers, and have upped their "security"
you'll find they might have their cameras pointing at the machines more now too..
Is this a wind up re Cops & Robbers?
If not, its funny you should say that about Wetherspoons.
I was in both of the ones in Worthing yesterday and the machines have been moved right nr to the bar, plus covered by extenstive cctv.
-The problem with spoons is the majority of the players do not purchase anything at the bar. They simply walk in off the street head straight for the machine and clean them out.
I am suprised Spoons let it go on for so long.
I think machines are placed here for security reasons. Basically, they ain't been moved due to players.
agreed, unless you count poor darts coins as playable, which in spoons is debatable really, as they are often losses even give 100% skill, or other questionably playable games which I wont mention, there isn't really that much in spoons at the moment. Although scumhole london areas do seem to have the odd playable...
I actually played an electro yesterday that was ready x2. No icons(naturally) but it didn't play up!! Bout £70 up. Most I've made on an electro for months!!
I'm headin to Leicester to get my share of icons!!
Pokerface collects super quick and I had £180 in one the other day and pressed collect to hard and it dumped the lot. The whole pub turned around and made me feel very uncomfortable.
Really doesn't matter what you do.
Been barred after buying 3 meals (one per person) plus 2 drinks each. Sat down and wasted an hour, then played slot. Nice and slow, a moment to study the flashing holds, changed 4 x £20s over the counter for coins (only put £30 in), got the top and it went £105....messed around by putting silver in afterwards. Changed £50 back and got told don't bother coming back you're barred! lol.
Fun, Fun and more Fun...

Fallen for that trap myself a few times. Just a couple of milliseconds too early and your small discreet payout becomes an avalanche of nugget poo.

If I get barred for daft reasons as mentioned above, depending on who it is and how many locals are there, if I fancy my chances, I drop my drink and start swinging windmills at the person(s) in question and give them reason to bar me, collect my coins from the tray and walk out casually jingling my (usually) full pockets whilst nodding at the other punters on the way out.
My theory - 'If you're going to get barred, give them something to bar you for'

One of the major reasons for the increased heat is the many many pubwatch schemes running now. These are like crimewatch - and they are meetings and info sites for landlords. If you have one disgruntled landlord - next thing you know the entire town is fire. I know a county where the landlords have decided any two males buying soft drinks and playing the machines WILL be barred. Same landlords are provididng each other with a list of problem machines - and immediately asking games companies to replace them - usually requesting quiz machines instead.
Biggest problem is how horrible some £70's play after a rip - not good for regulars so not good for the pub.
Its been a problem for years - lets face it. About 15 years ago i was barred for a 5 liner - after being told its for reulars to lose on ( I lived four doors away) - and i should go to an arcade.
Too many toolers - too much out and out robbery - not too mention that episode of the real hustle. Note change scams.... in all honesty how much do you think has been robbed from the games companies in the last 5 years? Rips and methods not included.
Also - landlords didn't use to be liable for losses - they are now - Leisure companies have renogotiated their contracts. One final thought - given that all machines from bookies have gone, plus half the pubs in the country have closed down, it was always going to get worse as players were squashed into a smaller area.
