I would try changing each board one at a time. the problem with epoch tech, if theres a fault on one board it can cause plenty of other bugs glitches to appear. are you sure the main board you changed was a good one without any battery leakage?

Are all the lights flashing on all the boards? each board has a green light (flashing) and the main board has six (one is not used) if the boards getting hot it could be causing problems.
You say you can hear an alarm? are there any alarm codes on the led?

Or if you don't want to take them apart just spray a little WD40 along the edges of each button and it will dissolve the dry beer etc.

yup it should work fine, but a new barrel is piss easy to fit, just pop it in the hole and screw the thread on it, then just connect the wire connectors to the tabs on the barrel, if the machine still stays in refill mode, just swap the wires over, job done! You can get one off ebay for a couple of ...

Its the "ir" led light/eye which counts the coins out the hopper, its more likely just dirty, you need to remove the hopper motor to access it and give it a careful clean with a cotton bud

Is the power unit a "stadium" one? (grey/silver metal box?) if so these are prone to many problems, ie overheating and catching fire! It sounds like the connecter has burnt, so the best idea is to get a replacement, ebay regulary have them available so i would check on there.
