I wonder what the highest machine loss rate is that anyone has experienced on their patch (however big or small that patch is)? I can't think of a worse one than Newbury - I can think of 19 locations where there has been a machine in the town itself or in the surrounding area within the last five ye...

I'm not a pro as I have a 'normal' full-time job but I do play machines in many locations, either as part of journeys I would make anyway or as dedicated weekends. For those dedicated weekends there is no point in my simply revisiting the machines in my immediate area as (a) there aren't enough of t...

I have seen huge machine losses (70-80%) over the last two or three years in many of the towns within easy reach for me, so some travelling is inevitable if I want to find a decent crop - you can't just keep revisiting the same machines if you are playing them properly. It is always an amusing momen...

The filter is sensitive in terms of displaying the words, but at least it allows you to play them all (or all the ones I've tried so far at least), whereas Word Soup disallows lots of common words for being "rude". The odd thing about the # Words leaderboard is that it forms part of the &q...

To return to an earlier point in this discursive thread,I have still only seen one machine with 'new' Pub Quiz on.Have other members found many machines with it on? Also, any sign of an updated Hangman's Saloon? I haven't really go much interest in either game, but I am thinking that if Phase one of ...

"Phase One of a two-part schedule includes a totally new and upgraded version of what is almost certainly the greatest ever SWP game, Pub Quiz. This new version contains a fully revised question library, the key to the success of any trivia quiz game. From the same creative stable, the best in...

a throw back to the seventies, ... a fully paid up member of the Lib-dem party, ... thick glasses and a haircut that would allow him to blend into the hair bear bunch Whoever this was, in the unlikely event that they are reading these pages I wouldn't expect them to rush forward to answer to this d...

So,in short,in my opinion, not purely a game of skill but certainly a welcome addition to the quiz machine world. I'm not saying it's perfect by any means (and I did give a few reasons why not in my original message) but I'd say 90% or so of the answers on subjects I know about have a reasonable poi...

I don't disagree with much of what you say, but a couple of points: - for that 'Boggle' game, if I am correct in assuming you mean '# Words', then you don't have to type in the letters in the words, you can scroll smoothly from letter to letter, which speeds things up considerably. Longer words also...

No - the £25 JP is an extremely rare sighting but it appears at the end of the normal game, i.e. if you are very lucky the prize structure will have £25 at the end rather than the standard £4. Conversely a £1 JP is not an uncommon sight on this one.

I wondered why my ears were burning... ;-) ... and also Nil Satis talking about the lights going out To be fair, that thread isn't anything like as old as you imply - it was started in 2012 at the point when machines disappearing was starting to become a regular and noticeable pattern, something muc...

Sherlock Nil would like to point out that the numbers on the posted images make it very unlikely that the two first pictures were taken from the same machine as the latter two, and indeed there were probably three separate machines and/or visits involved here.

This is a relatively minor issue, but it is certainly part of the wider picture. The general failure rate of Paragons, which have basically been the market leaders for serious players for several years now, is just ridiculous. Whether it's a failure to pay out, a failure to accept some or all coins ...

It does vary, but I have a few towns near me that have lost 80-90% of their machines in the last couple of years, with actual pub closures being only a small part of that. Slightly further afield, Winchester lost all five machines that I knew of in the city centre in the space of around six months. ...

Play them as much as you can and be organised and disciplined about it, but the more sensible advice is, as paragoon says, to forget it - the tiny number of players still left who make a full or part time living from quiz machines have in most cases been playing seriously for 20-30 years. You would ...
