The problem is some M1 boards will work in one machine, but not in others.

Where did you get the other ones that you tried? Were they definitely OK or just random untested boards?

Modern coin mechs are rarely fixable, although a good clean often does them good. You can get a replacement one fairly cheaply though.

You can easily test glass by gently dropping it on the floor. If it smashes, it's probably glass.
