Interesting. Possible to foresee quiz machines which take 50p pieces and nothing else. Though would anyone notice the difference?

So,why I've started this thread is I'm not sure the games companies realise just how many problems there are with the machines when they're out in the field.I've said this in a previous thread but what I think we should all do is point out problems and possible improvements. It might do no good at a...

The End Times Are Upon Us, Pt. 94

At the risk of posting for the first time in months with nothing more to say than the usual "The End of the World Is Nigh", I thought I should mark the passing of the machine in the King's Arms, Oxford. I mention it because I'm pretty sure this brings to an end an unbroken 30 year run, dur...

Having a little jolly to the south coast this week, I noticed a familiar name on a machine with some impressive high scores. Given how sensitive the filter is on rude words on that game, I was surprised it let that one through as well...

To return momentarily to the start of this thread, I actually played the new version of Pub Quiz this week - you remember, the new version which is Part 1 of the process which is going to bring back the glory days to the machining industry. And who wouldn't be drawn by the promise of a small tag on ...

As it seems to be doom and gloom just lately, how about a more cheerful post to maintain the karmic balance of the forum? Here's a couple of photos from earlier today, which I post for various reasons: a) to show that there's always light at the end of the tunnel b) to provoke envy and righteous ang...

I had a full pint and nowhere else to go before catching a train, so it wasn't really a feat of endurance :) This one was a Gamesnet, but it's the only one I've encountered, so not exactly conclusive data.

Sadly not with this one. Put the stopwatch on it and gave up after 18 minutes of nothing happening...

Annoying software errors of our time

Pointless on Gamesnet - win the Head to Head and the screen freezes. Anyone else encountered this new and thoroughly irritating glitch or is it just a one off designed to harsh my mellow?

PS yes I did try turning it off and on again.

I wonder what the chances are of Pointless 2.0 appearing with some/all new categories (and the chance of jackpots regularly rising back above 60 pence)? Probably slim, as I think we've all observed that plenty of good games would be even more successful if the databases were refreshed at least occas...

I was in the East Midlands for a family function at the weekend, so had the chance to revisit some old haunts from the days when I lived closer to the area. I'd already established that someone has sucked Derby and Nottingham dry, leaving a withered old husk for the rest of us to chew on, simply by ...

The Regal in Gloucester is correct. And no, there's nothing in the place next door. It's one of those pubs where you feel the need to walk around twice to check you haven't missed anything because it looks so much like the sort of place that ought to have a quiz machine (probably once did, I bet) bu...

Squatters rights and other annoyances

I played a Paragon in a big Spoons the other day; one of those with a handy little shelf by the machines where you can rest your pint. While I was playing, an old geezer (of the sort who represent a massive proportion of JDW's daytime trade) came over, put his pint on the shelf by mine, then dragged...

I know the dilemma. In days gone by, when machines were much thicker on the ground, I was happy to milk them like a part-time off-spinner and play the long game. As you say, nothing makes a landlord consider whether he really needs a quiz game like an alert saying "Hopper Error / Call Engineer ...
