it is strange, that one day it worked fine, well for 2/3 days worked fine, after it had been in storage for 14 yrs.

Just re-read what you said Brian - the lead (computer/kettle style lead) plus into a socket in the middle of the back of the machine. When opened up, this just has a few wires on the other side which take this socket into a black cable - i cant see any fuse on that. I will have a look again tomorrow...
