open the top door, wait until it initialises fully, press cancel, then press and hold the test switch for 3 seconds, make sure you unscrew the top door switch so that when you shut it won't re-initialise. It will now be in Demo mode.

Have you tried playing it with the top door open slightly (to release the plunge button) AND with the bottom door open as well?
